Untill such time that DOC and Icasa actually do something constructive...there wont be any news. Vodacom have demonstrated LTE in Midrand and towers are LTE ready....but no spectrum...no roll out. And LTE is not 4G. LTE Advanced will be 4G

Well that sucks doesn't it. Well I guess it's the same old story in good old south Africa !

4G will be here around 2014/2015 i predict, ICASA and DOC are holding some spectrum needed for 4G apparently.

Can you give more details on your 14/15 timeframes?

4G only exists on paper at the moment and I've not seen any manufacturer publish roadmaps.

And you all forget that you'll need a handset with an LTE chip inside.

Who will be sponsoring the phones? :p

Well yes. Does it make a difference?

Nowhere on the SA version does it say 4G.

Really really fast is your only option.

The new iPad supports fast mobile data networks around the world, including HSPA, HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. So you can browse the web, stream content or download a film at incredibly fast speeds: up to 21.1 Mbps with HSPA+ and up to 42 Mbps with DC-HSDPA.

"*Cellular data service is available only on iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular model. This product supports very fast cellular networks. 4G LTE is supported on this model but only on certain North American Networks. Data plans sold separately. See your carrier for details."

But...we are not in North America?

The LTE chip has been replaced with a HSPA+ (3G) modem for most of the European and African countries, as far as I know.

So you got conned by Core into believing that your ipad has got 4G onboard?

I got told by the reseller on the website that the iPad 3 has the capability to access 4g/LTE websites. How nice it is to now know that I've paid double the price for an inferior product.

Think I read somewhere that Core was ordered by the court to remove any reference to 4G and ipad from their web site.

Yeah it is odd that they haven't. Removed it I mean.

Local ipad 3 comes with LTE chips too.. its just that theyre useless at the moment...
The New iPad baisically has 2 versions of cellular wireless... ONLY 2
1 - GSM (AT&T) unit that supports most of the world and includes the LTE Chip for "4G" Speeds (This is the one compatible to our 3G HSPA+ etc..
2 - CDMA (Verizon) That supports CDMA networks and includes the LTE Chip for "4G" too (Not compatible in SA except maybe on Neotel... but i doubt they want the money... :D)
