If you don't game online, it's fine I guess.

Otherwise, ask TelkomZA to assist you in getting it back to 4Mb/s.
 
im hoping they can upgrade my profile to try and counter the latency issues. im on a 4mb/s line, but in for the last week and a bit, im going at between 600 and 800ms on the ping, and my speeds have dropped to below 2mbps.

ive had a port reset done, worked better but then it dropped again. Im now going to see if Telkom can look at upgrading my profile, and hopefully at least my speed can be corrected.

I see a number of persons posting here are all getting what looks like only 10% of the downstream transfer rate as an upstream rate? Why is this? I thought the upstream rate was pegged to be at least 25% of the down stream rate?

My line has been reverted back to 2Mbps and I get my 25%. Until all the construction work is completed, I am better off with a 2 Mbps service than an unreliable 4 Mbps service.

Nope, where did you hear about this 25%? Never been like that. Just because 512 is 25% of your 2Mb line does not mean you get 25% upload on a 4Mb line, still only going to be 512. Think around 10Mb download you get 1024 upload

I'm thinking you're confusing 25% with 10%. Not that it's a set rule nonetheless.

Currently no change to users on DSLAMs or IMAXs. (4096/512 or 10240/1024)

Stepped implementation of ASSIA management system on all users linked to MSAN or ISAM units underway. Where the SNR deteriorates the system will drop the DL/UL rate until it stabilises. The other impact is that those with good SNR values will see their DL/UL rate increase but their latency will take a knock. From what I hear they are moving around 20 000 users per day to the new system.

Why can't it be an opt-in system? I know the ill effects of interleaved on my online gaming experience, so surely I should be able to choose whether I want slightly better download speeds, or flawless online gaming.

I had a bad experience, my line was working perfectly (from my perspective) at 10mbps, now I've been downgraded to 7mbps. I'm guessing but it seems like in trying to improve my upload speed by 5% they've degraded my download speed by 30%. Not really happy with that :(

I doubt if the system has that functionality. As you have already seen, it resets every 7/8 days so that "change" made by calling 10210 or TelkomZA gets overridden by the system.

Another issue we have seen is that it drops your DL/UL rate when your SNR deteriorates but it does not automatically restore it when your SNR improves. Requires a manual intervention...

why cant you have the best of both worlds? Sometimes i wonder about Telkom. They can upgrade a system, that gives you a little bit more speed, but then hurt you on latency, instead of giving you an overall good experience on both sides of the fence.

as i only stream, the high latency has hurt me in recent week or so, with a ping between 600 and 800ms. Its a crazy situation to be in, as you are in a situation where you would rather choose one over the other.

I don't mind the 3.5 on 4Mb/s package at all tbh - I only game and stream, and it works fine for me. The crap only started when these chops decided to intervene.

Of course, as you say, the best would be both, but then again if I'm off to lalaland I'd rather have 100Mb/s with 0ms ping.
