4Mb line constantly losing sync..

UPDATE: Got a techie out a couple of days ago and he replaced the phone jack with a new one. Line was rock solid for the next few days but today I've lost sync twice. :(

After he replaced the jack, the line attenuation and margin stats were much better but today they seem to have deteriorated a bit.

Is there anything that can be done (both on my side and Telkoms) to give me a stable line with NO sync loss. I've already dropped my line speen from 4 to 3Mbps.

Same problem

Hi feo

I have exactly the same problem and it also started about the same time as yours. At first I also had the line speed downgraded in steps down to 1 mbps but no joy. I also had the port reset, but still persistent disconnects .

I then had Telkom techie out, they tested the telephone line and said the problem is not the house wires or jacks, but on the main lines connecting to the DSLAM.

I, however don't think so. I think their equipment can't handle the load anymore. Oversubscribed etc or whatever. It also seems that it is worst at about 8h00 mornings and around 5-6 in the evenings.

I live about 2km from town. We've got 4mbps and apart from my PPPoE connection dying randomly (so does everyone elses in the area) I haven't lost sync which I can remember.

Stable connection so far using Billion 7300M

Which area are you in?

I'm gonna try to get a techie to come on Saturday when I'm at home so that I can see what he does and try to pin point the source of the problem. Will keep you posted.

I tried to get the guy from the Telkom Shop to give me a Billion router for free and it ALMOST worked but the guy next to him said that the free router promo is over. :D

Anyway tera, do some brands of routers handle the connection better than others.

I think so, or at least I've read that sometimes they do.

I've got an extra USB ADSL modem here, I'm giving it to someone soon, but I just thought of posting it to you :p

If you can lend an ADSL modem or Router from someone, test it for a few days and see if it isn't your router.

Well it just so happens that the Telkom techie left a ZyXEL IAD P2602 router at my place before he left but the power cable from my Mega 100WR doesn't fit the XyXEL so ya, I'm gonna have to find a power cable for it somewhere.

Not Router

I am in the Worcester area, Western Cape. I have already replaced the previous router with a Netgear, no difference. Also the Telkom techie tested independently with their own router, same thing happens.

area lines

Yes, they said that is the problem. However I'm not so sure.
