My line still syncs at 4Mb/sec with the exchange but does not connect to MWEB or the Telkom guest account. Both MWEB and TELKOM reset the port at least once and it did not help. Rebooting, switching off the router and trying different telephone sockets did not help either. I filed a case with TELKOM and they gave me a reference number. This all happened suddenly last night after I was suffering some slow speeds and phoned MWEB to ask what the problem was.

What could it be? DO these things happen suddenly? How long does TELKOM take to fix these things?

Thanks!!!

It sounds like a problem with your exchange, this happend to me a while ago. Everything was fine synched but could not connect to the radius servers, eventually it was found out that the firmwares and hardware where not in synch at the exchange it took about 4/5 days to resolve when they realized what the problem was

Ive been having the same issue with syncing and not being able to browse, then not syncing etc etc etc. I always get told by Telkom its the exchange and then a day later its working again, a day later its down again. Been like that for a week now

If you are getting dropped syncs its not the exchange but most likely your line on route to the exchange.

Speaking to telkom techie's they always say there is no traffic going through the exchange

Yes, no traffic going through the exchange does not indicate a problem at the exchange itself, think about it. If people are not synching to the exchange there would be no traffic, which in turn means its something before the exchange preventing this.

In theory yes, however i doubt that all complexes/houses connecting to the exchange can go down at the same time and the problem not be centrally located like the exchange?

I have the same problem. Was told to replace my pots filters. Did so and the problem is still there.

My line syncs at 4096kbps down and 511kbps up. But no connection to ISP. Telkom now says the problem is not at the exchange but maybe at the 'box' on the street.

Yes and today they checked it out. The guy just phoned me and said everything's OK.
He now wants to go over my settings and will do so tomorrow (Sat morning).

Could the router be faulty? But it detects the ADSL line and it says it sync's at 4096/511

I had a similar case with a customer in Meadowridge Cape Town, line synced etc etc... Telkom swore blind their kit was good.... Until I got one of my "collar and tie" mates who works at Telkom to check it out for me and then the service returned to normal. My customer had in the mean time purchased two additional routers (unnecessary expense) to try and resolve the problem on his side and all along it was Helkom's fault. TIA everyone!

I'd try another router because it could very possibly be the router messing around...

Anyway yesterday a Telkom techie phoned and said he looked at the local box and that worked OK. He said he'd call today and possibly come out to see what's going on.
Ha. I get a call today from TELKOM employee BRADLEY who says that nothing's been checked and that Telkom will sent out a technician at some stage. He had no idea who called on Friday afternoon.

TELKOM is really fugged up.

Does anyone know how to make some complaints at TELKOM to make them hurry up?

Call them on the support line (don't forget to make a cup of coffee while you hold for them to answer) then give them your ticket number and tell the support agent you need to escalate your problem. He/She will then txfr you to a monkey higher up in the food chain and so you keep going until you reach the top of the tree so to speak. Then inform the chief monkey that you have a business from home and cannot afford to be down etc etc. iow lay it on real thick. I have found this to be quite effective and usually works, good luck maaan.

Thanks a lot. I also tried a different router/modem (Cisco) and same thing. Red Light - no connection.
