4Mb/s Permanent or Temp??

Will probably eventually see the introduction of another product after the trial.
The "up to 4mbps" will stay at current cost, with the ability of the line to burst up to 4mbps (probably less than 10% of the time)

Premium product will be more expensive and guarantee 4mbps speeds. Will have to fork out extra if you want the guaranteed experience (like with unshaped).

My speculation. No inside info.

They can't gaurentee 4Mbits, it's totally dependant on your location, i.e. distance from the exchange. You don't really get gaurenteed 4MBit anyware (internationally I mean).

I can see them having 512k, 1MB, 2MB and 4Mb price brackets though, with 384k falling away.

Well.....after much thinking, ive decided to upgrade ( dont like being left behind ). :)
Luckily my region is 4mb compatable...

perhaps the people bitching are just jealous of our 4mbit dsl and they're just looking for ways to 'try' to get to us :D

Well, my 4mb dsl isn't really all that spectacular at the moment. Yesterday torrents were doing 1024 speeds, today all has gone to sh*t and my speed is slower than my original 512. The lines synching at 4096, I'm hoping it's just teething problems.

Yeah this happens, just unplug your router and leave it for 20 seconds and plug it back in again... you'll be back up to speed :D

Ive spoken to a Telkom guy and he was VERY helpfull...His name was Gakkie, a coloured guy from the Cape...I just thought i HAD to mention him cause i wish there were more like him at Telkom......quick, helpfull....and straight to the point....even helped me with a couple a services i never knew existed....lol
He told me the service wil take between 3-7 days to get activated....so...ill just wait patiently :)

Just my two bits of speculation ... if Telkom intends on using the 4MB service for any sort of triple play/IPTV option, they're going to have to price competitively to take business away from DSTV etc... assuming they are going to bundle the services together.

The approach most international providers take is usually to increase the bandwith (speed) and keep the price the same. If Telkom follows this approach and until Neotel catches up, I wouldn't expect any decrease in bandwith costs but possible increases in the bandwith offerings for the prices we currently pay.

It's going to be really interesting over the next few months to see how capping and bandwith pricing are affected.

This reminds me of buying "Chappies" in the old days...First you had 2 for half cent.....then 1 for half sent.....then 1 for a cent....then, as the price went up, so the "chappies bubblegum" became smaller......but it was still 1 chappie for a cent....lololol
