Hi All...

Downgrading to 1MB....
So should I downgrade now? How long does telkom take to downgrade line?
and what is the costs involved?

thanks guys!!

as far as i know they do it while you are on the line, make you switch off the router etc/

they shouldn't charge you to downgrade.

they have bumped the 512 to 1mb now right? so you will pay the old rate for the 512 correct?

If you are now on the 4mbps, and you only get the 1mbps line, and you now downgrade to 1mpbs, will you receive the 1mbps, or will it hover between 512k and 1mpbs? [that whole "up to"]

You don't have to switch off your ADSL modem/router.

They can do the downgrade while you're on the phone, and it should be free.

The up to 1Mbps Telkom ADSL should always sync at 1Mbps, unless you're way too far from the DSLAM to maintain a stable 1Mbps connection, OR if the Exchange is too congested to allow for anything more than 512kbps.

Well if you sync at 4mbits now then you should sync at 1mbit... The up to clause is just there in case someone has *****ty copper and cannot connect at the full line speed which means Telkom doesn't have to come fix it.

I downgraded from 4Mbps to 1Mbps by going to the Telkom Direct shop, and it was downgraded later on that day.

The billing was done pro-rata, which means that if you downgrade in the middle of the month, that you'll be paying ~50% of the 4Mbps price + 50% for the 1Mbps connection at the end of the month.

@drukkie

why you downgrading dude?

I'm finished downloading the interwebs :)
Used to do 400Gb per month...on mweb...then got the 130Gb redafrica special
but the 30GB during the day is just not enough...1GB per day.
so swapping to 1MB uncapped...almost the same price.

If someone wants to take over my redafrica account lemme know.
R199, used 15GB's...

grab it while it's hot :)

Its like this... if you line is capable of full 4 meg and you limit it to 1meg you will get that full 1 meg (sometimes over 1meg).

If you have a unstable line and your line can only reach 1meg then you might only get between 512k and 1meg.

I have a 512k line at work that is capable of much more, its limited to 512 but downloads peak up to 600-800k at times (just under 1meg). My old line at home used to get just under 512k as it was the most the line could support.

Short answer yes, you should get full 1meg

I doubt that that will happen. It is just syncing at 1mb because that is the highest it can sync at. If you grab the 1mb line, I'm pretty sure that you will sync at 1mb still

Bizkit87, could you log in on your ADSL modem's web interface, go to its ADSL statistics page and then post your stats here. Please make sure that you post the sync speed, SNR (noise) margin & line attenuation - both for upstream & downstream.

ok, i will do tonight.

Afaik there is a downgrade fee, but there is no upgrade fee. Downgrade fee is probably around R250... Its Mb not MB.
