With that usage you could stay with MWEB if you grab a premium account.

If you really want to move from MWEB then I'd recommend GOLD:

After all the mweb issues previously, why would he upgrade his account?

What issues? If he's on 4mbps premium he won't have any issues with that sort of usage.

From what I've read even people on 4mb uncapped have received letters and have been throttled at ridiculous data usage.
30gb ridiculous

Hi Fudzy, that information does not look correct.

The calculation is done over a 30 day rolling window and is updated on a daily basis.

Perhaps the account holder was throttled in the start of a new month when his usage hit 3Gb, but it would still take into account the rest of the days in the rolling window.

Look, this is all third hand knowledge from the forums.
Maybe it's best I stay out of this.

Some food for thought;

My first thought when reading this article was "Haha shame to the abusers". Then I checked my mail and I received a letter as well. I couldn't believe it. I am a downloader but never would have thought of myself as a 'network abuser'.

Surely an average of 76gigs a month over the last year (1mb) is not abuse?

I reckon we just all cancel our uncapped packages and goto other places who don't screw us over like MWEB does, then when enough people cancel and MWEB start seeing it on their bank balances and have to let staff go because they can't afford to pay them anymore, they might realize that screwing us over was the worst thing they can do.

I had this same discussion with so many people and it seems they are all changing over to other ISP's.

There is abuse and there is ABUSE.

I've only done 30GB this month and they are already nailing me.

Screw them!

I'm just giving them time to realize and change their stupid setup, if not, I'll go spend my money elsewhere - the power of competition and CHANGE!

My brother is also a very light downloader, gets most of the bulk stuff from me. He also got a letter, rather silly considering he does well under 100GB on a 2mb line.

He has switched to OpenWeb and so far really enjoying it.

Go with Afrihost, or really any ISP that isn't mweb.

If i wanted to browse the net i would have used my free 3GB from FNB. I got uncapped adsl for a reason.

I didnt know of usenet. Will try it out

Standard torrenting is ALWAYS slow unless you're prepared to fork out for a fully unshaped account.

If you want to download you should either make use of Usenet or a VPS/torrentbox - either option will cost you around R100 a month.
