4x4 SUV under R600k...

Depending on how long you want to keep the car a secondhand Volvo C30 is very much acceptable.

Absolute bitches to maintain I hear. My mate had a C30 and paid a fortune on the thing. I'm very wary of Volvo. I considered a C70 some time ago and quickly decided against it...

I should have clarified earlier. VW is out. Absolutely nothing about VWs excites me. They are boring as a Hugh Jackman movie...

I considered the ds4 before I bought my civic but felt the interior was a let down. Seems they've devolved. That interior is atrocious...

I quite like the interior, but it needs the satnav unit. It looks cheap with that LCD display that is standard.

You can get a more refined car for the same kind of money. Also, Mitsubishi is in trouble. I would rather have a GC or Disco, but the OP does not want the Disco. That leaves one option, in my opinion :)

For the last 2 months I've been searching for a 2nd hand pajero swb (2011 or later) I didn't know Mitsubishi is in trouble. I'll do more research into that.

Subaru Forester - does everything you need it to do, plus has 220 mm ground clearance, and superb road manners in wet or dry.

:wtf: I thought his wife was going to drive it!

Not a clever move - we have just traded in a Wrangler (last week) - same thing - the guy thought it would be perfect for his wife...she didn't! ;)

Huh? I'm not married and haven't mentioned anything even remotely relating to a wife.

You're making a salesman's faux pas...

Sorry, I could have sworn I saw a wife mentioned!! :o

If it's for you - enjoy! They are amazing cars, but not always a "wife's" first choice! ;)
