5+5 LTE prepaid

It looks like they changed the ad. Now you need to change your tariff to "Prepaid LTE" (sic). I guess they mean "Smart Wireless".

If you don't require the night surfer allocation in the second month, it should be more cost effective to purchase a 61 day bundle and use it over two months as this is usually cheaper than purchasing two smaller bundles. The 20+20GB bundle costs R249 or R125pm for 10GBpm anytime data and 20GB night time data in the first month (no night time data in second month). You can also get 4GB anytime data on Mo'Nice for R60pm or 8GB for R120pm.

The Afrihost Pure LTE bundles might also be worth considering as they are cheaper and normally perform better than the Telkom packages but are unfortunately locked to certain routers and one geographic location. The topups are also cheaper than on Telkom. The smallest 30+30GB bundle starts at R199pm.

You'll see "Refreshing SIM Data" dozens of times per day after which you won't have any internet access (for a few minutes). That's the only reason why I'm back on the FreeMe bundles.

should i rather be looking at the mo nice deals?
just need about 3-4gb per month

I use this bundle for my routers. Plural. You can transfer part of the bundle to another Smart Broadband Wireless Prepaid sim.

Also it's prepaid. So if use less one month, you can buy smaller bundles.

Are you sure about sharing? A couple of weeks ago I bought a 5GB bundle with the intention of splitting it with my two girls only to find that the LTE bundle did not show up on the data transfer screen.

I then started a chat with Telkom Mobile via their site and was told that the LTE bundles are promo bundles and is not transferable. I then told them to rather convert the data back to airtime so I can get some value out of my money, nope, apparently I already used some of the data - even though I was connected to wifi and bought the bundle literally ten minutes before that.

So I was stuck with that data and ended up turning off wifi and watched some YouTube so that I get some value for my R100

These month to month deals are nice. The 10+10 gb from axxess for R99 is very decent.

You can transfer up to 1GB data per day to any other Telkom simcard including prepaid simcards so you can have it in your mifi or in your fixed lte router at home and then transfer some data to your phone simcard.

Yeah it depends on phone and location. It doesn't happen a lot in fact might get it once every 2 or 3 days and you don't always notice it better if you switch Telkom -R off

Yeah. The biggest problem for me is the fact that it works exclusively on Telkom Mobile's LTE bands, if you don't have LTE, it doesn't work and you get the Refreshing SIM Data message.

In my bedroom, LTE is practically non-existent. Just last night, we had issues with our fibre line and my wife couldn't use her LTE data at all

But it should work on Telkom 3G/2G too.

You see that's where you have it wrong and which Telkom Mobile does not make clear when they advertise these products.

From here (this is for the uncapped bundle, but the same is true for the capped oens)

"2G/3G failover will not be supported as the SmartBroadband Uncapped Wireless service is a fixed wireless service which must be used in a fixed location. The SmartBroadband Uncapped Wireless subscriber will not be able to roam on Telkom or MTN’s 2G/3G network and shall be limited to Telkom’s fixed wireless LTE network. ".

The above reduces the useasbility of the bundle considereably should you want to use it in your phone.

ok thanks guys.
I think i would rather go for cell c, 50gb for 6 month.

Okay a few things.

I have the original R599 now R529 uncapped simcard. Works fine on Telkom 3G snd 2G.

I have a 20gb+20gb Telkom capped simcard from Afrihost that came with a Huawei B525 and works fine on Telkom 3G and 2G.

I have a prepaid simcard on smartbroadband wireless prepaid price plan. Loaded the 5gb+5gb bundle and blocked Telkom -R on *180# and now use it in a very old 2G/3G Huawei Mifi and it's working fine.

So all the situations I tested it works.

All I can tell you is it does not work for me or any of my family members when there isn't any LTE coverage :(

Hi. I'm looking to change tariff plans and switch to Smart Wireless Broadband and use it on my phone. I have 4G in my area and where I work but I'm curious if it will switch over to 2G/3G if LTE is not available. I understand that it doesn't roam at all and I'm fine with that. If I've understood your post, correctly, once you've disabled Telkom-R it does switch over to 2G/3G right?
