5 reasons to avoid iPhone 3G

ISSUED BY MYDIGITALLIFE
Author: KMOBILE

Life is freedom and freedom fulfills life`s curiosity...

The 5 real reasons to avoid iPhone 3G:

1. iPhone completely blocks free software. Developers must pay a tax to Apple, who becomes the sole authority over what can and can`t be on everyone`s phones.

2. iPhone endorses and supports Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) technology.

3. iPhone exposes your whereabouts and provides ways for others to track you without your knowledge.

4. iPhone won`t play patent- and DRM-free formats like Ogg Vorbis and Theora.

5. iPhone is not the only option. There are better alternatives on the horizon that respect your freedom, don`t spy on you, play free media formats, and let you use free software...

...but unfortunately some people just won't hear it no matter how often it is said! There are none so deaf as those who will not hear!

Owned by the same company that launched the DRM friendly zune?... right I'm sure this article is not biased in the slightest.

BTW, Apple has dropped it's NDA and is far more open to developers now.
We have decided to drop the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for released iPhone software.

We put the NDA in place because the iPhone OS includes many Apple inventions and innovations that we would like to protect, so that others don’t steal our work. It has happened before. While we have filed for hundreds of patents on iPhone technology, the NDA added yet another level of protection. We put it in place as one more way to help protect the iPhone from being ripped off by others.

However, the NDA has created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success, so we are dropping it for released software. Developers will receive a new agreement without an NDA covering released software within a week or so. Please note that unreleased software and features will remain under NDA until they are released.

Thanks to everyone who provided us constructive feedback on this matter.

Not one of those reasons are good enough to NOT buy an iPhone!

1. The SDK kit is out for the iPhone.

2. Well, with artists on their case every day, guess they had to keep the peace.

3. If you have a mobile phone, people will be able to find you. ANY MOBILE PHONE.

4. I really don't care about Ogg Vorbis and Theora. MP3 for me, thank you!

5. This is not even a reason...it's logic. Choice. You decide what you want to buy.

:)

Ok coming from a guy who despised apple, this is by far the best phone i have used, no freezing so far, no crashing so far. Great interface, awesome touch screen - the mosts amazing things I have ever seen. Guys stop being jealous and go and play with one. I too was one of you and now I am converted.

Nice post - I agree with all your 5 points.

Cool another thread about me... Thanks Boodles but rather start a fresh one for me and leave this one to the OPs topic!

Also feel free to tell me what you want, I'll listen... but if you go off slagging the country again then it is not a matter of being deaf but a matter of choosing not to hear. A little bit more subjective than the topic of a phone which can be clearly defined and analysed!

Using the LAME codec you can make licence free MP3's.

Don't need to use OGG or FLAC. Granted they offer better
quality for file size but for mobile devices u won't
be able to tell the difference.

I thought visual voicemail now works in SA? Now what the hell was vodacom doing all these months????

I had a good laugh at your reply.

Anyway, nice of you to be selective about my postings. Continue looking through your tinted glasses.

Was rather cheap and hypocritical of you to make the comment you made in the first post though.

I'm still laughing.

Sorry I did not factor in the off topic posts.... and I'm sorry to tell you that I will repeat my first post over and over again as we all know full well that once someone has a phone, or has their sights set on it, nothing you say can change their minds. And if you reread my post that provided you which such entertainment then you will note that I did not for one minute say that I was excluded from that...

Correct - as you say it can be any phone, much like yourself and the N82.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking - another anti-iphone tread that stinks like poop, so that would explain all the flies buzzing about it. Well, what would an anti-iphone thread be if it is not Rouxenated ?

While I am not going to get involved with "the 5 reasons" or the loads of other reasons not to get an iPhone I will make the following observation.

When someone discusses whether to buy, say an Omnia or an N82, you get a good debate with the pros and cons of each device. People will acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of each device and possibly even point out other options, like perhaps a nice SE or HTC. Now I am a Nokia guy but when someone has needs in a phone and I know there is not a Nokia on the shelves that will satisfy that person I have no problems recommending a SE, LG, HTC or Samsung.

This is not the case with the iPhone.
As soon as you start debating the iPhone you get :
* People unwilling to admit its weaknesses
* Dismisses like you are jealous
* Dismisses like "oh, you again"
* Did I mention getting personal ?
* Clever answers about hacks or 3rd party software to use
* Overall blindness to other peoples point of view or general logic

Now I concede that, sure, the iPhone is a good looking phone, and the user interface it a novel one. C’mon, Nokia even admitted that it deserves to be copied with pride – that is a compliment from the world leader right there. Well done on those points. But if you look further you will find A LOT of problems with the iPhone, its maker, and its supporters. Any attempt to try and debate any of those issues brings you to a thread like this where the observations I mentioned are taking place.

Aha but if you read the threads in question you will note that I have on numerous occasions asked for fans of the Omnia, and in fact even the iPhone, to please point out what makes those phones better. I am in the process of deciding and wanted reasons for choosing one or the other. I am yet to get direct responses. You will then also note that I then went to the trouble of posting links to numerous reviews for both the Omnia and N82. I never once just said it looks better or because it is the best phone on the market without backing it up.
