5 reasons to avoid iPhone 3G

At risk of me being told I am talking to myself as we are apparently the same person, I will concur with this. On the note of us being one and the same person it does interest me that we never have to resort to suggesting the staunch iPhone supporters are all the same person. Suppose this ties in with what you were saying...

When someone discusses whether to buy, say an Omnia or an N82, you get a good debate with the pros and cons of each device. People will acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of each device and possibly even point out other options

I don't get why some people do not get this! If I criticise the Omnia or any other phone I am hoping someone will defend it and correct me or point out something I have missed. I am on the market for a phone and I want to hear what real people say. Someone suggested going to talk to a salesperson at a cell shop but how will this help, they just want to make a sale not point out the defects and shortfalls! I want to debate and get to the bottom of which phone is better.

I have been looking around on the net to see what I can find on the iPhone 3G 16 Gig and Samsung i900 16 Gig Omnia because I am in the market for a new phone. I have been looking at the following site that does give the specs and prices of the 2 phones but still can not make up my mind which one. Although the Samsung Omnia look like a good deal, I still need more info of the iPhone 3G:

If anyone here can direct me to more sites that can give more info, I would appreciate it.

The Omnia does not stack up that well against the iPhone in terms of screen size. Instead you should keep a look out for the SonyEricsson XPERIA X1, HTC Touch HD and the Nokia 5800 - they all have much better screens than the iPhone, not to mention other hardware benefits.

My suggestion would be to demo the phones you consider purchasing, I'm biased and will point out the aspects that make the iPhone shine(music player, appstore) but I suggest you try out all the phones then make a decision you can live with.

Correct - as you say it can be any phone, much like yourself and the N82.

I don't think that he's an N82 fanboy so much as an anti-iPhone fanboy, and who can blame him. Taking target audiences into consideration, the Omnia would fall into the same category and it kills the iPhone.

Making things look pretty on the screen can only get one so far, sooner or later functionality actually starts playing a part. But I suppose that Apple targets the retards who like pretty things with an i in front of it, and it works for them because their ignorance doesn't reveal to them any flaws. When was the last time that Apple actually targeted the more serious non-casual audience?

I did find the follwing info:

Samsung i900 Resolution 240 x 400 pixels
iPhone 3G’s Resolution 320 x 480 pixels

Samsung Omnia battery is 5.80 hours, delivered 4 hours and 20 minutes of talk time
iPhone 3G battery is 10 hours, delivered 4 hours 27 minutes of talk time .

Samsung has MicroSD card slot (iphone has none)

Much better 5 megapixel camera (better processing, higher resolution, face and smile detection, geotagging) vs. iPhone 2.0 megapixel camera.

TV-out (iphone lacks that)

TouchWiz user interface VS multi-touch interface.

Microsoft Window Mobile 6.1 Professional VS Mac OS X v10.4.10

Copy/Paste performance ( iphone offers none)

Omnia offers voice dialing and recording, but the iphone 3g still missing those features

Lol it has a lot more flaws than that, most of which are not present on the Omnia (it's closest market rival). And that's not even taking into account security vulnerabilities.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking - another anti-iphone tread that stinks like poop, so that would explain all the flies buzzing about it. Well, what would an anti-iphone thread be if it is not Rouxenated ?

While I am not going to get involved with "the 5 reasons" or the loads of other reasons not to get an iPhone I will make the following observation.

When someone discusses whether to buy, say an Omnia or an N82, you get a good debate with the pros and cons of each device. People will acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses of each device and possibly even point out other options, like perhaps a nice SE or HTC. Now I am a Nokia guy but when someone has needs in a phone and I know there is not a Nokia on the shelves that will satisfy that person I have no problems recommending a SE, LG, HTC or Samsung.

This is not the case with the iPhone.
As soon as you start debating the iPhone you get :
* People unwilling to admit its weaknesses
* Dismisses like you are jealous
* Dismisses like "oh, you again"
* Did I mention getting personal ?
* Clever answers about hacks or 3rd party software to use
* Overall blindness to other peoples point of view or general logic

Now I concede that, sure, the iPhone is a good looking phone, and the user interface it a novel one. C’mon, Nokia even admitted that it deserves to be copied with pride – that is a compliment from the world leader right there. Well done on those points. But if you look further you will find A LOT of problems with the iPhone, its maker, and its supporters. Any attempt to try and debate any of those issues brings you to a thread like this where the observations I mentioned are taking place.

You tend to like Apple stuff so much that, u tend to not fret about the few things they don't have.

Yes, as I observed "Overall blindness to other peoples point of view or general logic" and this is a well know bug with apple supporters.

Yep, we can't explain these things to people who haven't experienced them before. And generally we don't care, because u won't get it anyway.
