I keep getting a 504 Gateway Timeout error when I try to access Google (www.google.co.za). I have had the same problem yesterday, but I first thought it was just some error on Google itself. Other sites was working, if just slowly.

I tried just now to access Google again, but it fails again. GMail and other sites (local and international) works fine. I was able to access Google from work today. I can also access Google through my cellphone.

While not critical, it is very annoying, since Google is my main search engine to use.

I live in Mill Hills, Bryanston. I am using an E220 modem on Windows XP SP2.

Does anyone know what is wrong or are experiencing the same problems?

I'm having the same issue with my 3G and I'm in Alberton. Not sure the exact details, but it's a usb modem on Vista.

Having trouble accessing gmail and a few other sites as well.

Does anyone know of a solution to this 504 Gateway Timeout error, it's a little frustrating when all you get is this message...

I'm using the E220 modem.. on vodacom...

mine is doing the same thing. can get onto some sitess but google, gmail and all the google services are down. since about the 11th also. im in edenvale in jhb.
PLEASE SORT THIS OUT VODACOM. im so sick of paying you so much for your useless service

a tip for anyone who is having the same trouble with gmail.
i can get to the log in page, but when i log in i get a 504 error.

to access gmail go to www.gmail.com, log in, and while the page is loading (which it never will), wait a few seconds then open another tab or 2 with www.gmail.com.
this will load gmail, mail will be working, but chat and some other features won't.

to fix this, open another tab (while your gmail.com one is still open) with
https://www.mail.google.com/mail/
this one will be fully working gmail, with chat and all

easy hey!

Seems everyone is reporting the 504 errors started on the 11th.

Anyone with better resolution? Was it first thing in the morning, after noon, etc?

Trying to correlate it with some network stats.

The problems were definitely occuring by 06:00 on the 12th, but my connection speeds were fine at 16:00 on the 11th so I assume it started around then. It seemed to correct for a bit yesterday midday but then got bad again. I'm based in Randburg.

What have you got in mind?

Well, I think you have demonstrated a perfect example on how to use technology to keep contact with the customer by creating an account in this forum.

No doubt you have heard of Twitter, more and more organisations are beginning to use twitter to keep in touch of their customers (702 is already there). More and more people live on twitter on keep in touch with people they follow.

It could be useful to keep your 'followers'/customers regarding status notices that relate to the service. It can also help you track how your customers are experiencing the service http://search.twitter.com/search?q=vodacom
