50Cents a meg

My 6230 works. My vodacom HSDPA card does not.

ps. I sent virgin support a email on Sunday and have still not had a reply.

Ok i spoke to guys and they say it is a network problem. They are working on it. What's is happeing is that the IMEI number of the Data Card's is not registering on the network properly. So the network has no idea what handset you are using there for not allowing access to the network. will post as soon as they have comfirmed it is working.
 
Just got my VM simcard :D

Took a while (like a hour) before it got activated and I could make a call...
Have not yet been able to use GPRS - not even WAP on my phone :confused:
Also wouldn't work in my Novatel Merlin U740 data card...

Hopefully it just needs a while for data to get activated...
 
Try the following modem init string :

AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","vdata"

It worked for me on my Nokia 6230.

(Still no luck on my Huawei data card).

Great! That string works with my phone. Also still now luck with datacard though.
 
Well, well well, seem vmobile is makin some impact... Alot of data subscribers have had enough of bad service @ high prices, no wonder everyone is looking for ways to get free web on mobile networks (wish its possible) as the service we used to are not even good enough to give away for free

Ok

Just got word Cell C is now working with Data Cards. I have tested it using a Hauwei Data Card and i can connect with Cell C. There for Virgin Mobile should also be working. But haven't tested VM yet. Posting from my Cell C sim. And don't have my VM sim with me.
 
Option (vodafone) Data Cards are still not working. but other wise all the others seem to be fine. Tell me what sim cards did you get 16k, 32k, 64k. because only 32k and above works with data cards.

My Novatel Merlin U740 (Vodafone) is also still not working with my VM sim :(

So far I was not able to connect my Huawei card on Virgin Mobile.

(And besides you, I have not heard on any other success stories).

Problems with VM:
1) cannot connect via datacard
2) although can connect via phone or laptop connected to phone, I cannot access all websites.
seems that all .com sites can be accessed but some .co.za can be and some cannot be accessed.
examples of sites that cannot be accessed are: junkmail.co.za, news24.co.za, iol.co.za, myadsl.co.za
they seem to have an authentication problem at saix...

funny though: when connected to GPRS network on VM sim roaming on VC then the .co.za sites do open!!!but very slowly as no EDGE and only VC GPRS

No i am on cell c, because i also now can't connect on VM anymore. will try to find out what is going on.
 
I am glad Virgin is offering 50c / Mb! if they can do it, AND still make money from it, why not the others .... Broadband is not that expensive, but we are charged huge amounts for the use of it!

I will support Virgin on mobile internet, just because they launched at 50c / Mb!
 
Just chippin in quickly.......... Spoke to my stepfather last night in Holland. He says he pays 12 Euro a month for his cell contract. This includes 1000 (yes one thousand) free minutes and a free phone. He says that if he pays his cell account like good boy every month, his provider then rewards him for that at the end of the contract with another gift. He is a handy man and says he will be getting a Dewalt cordless drill. How is all this possible? Say the phone he got is worth R3000 and the Drill over here in SA sells for R1500, how do they manage to pay so little for calls and get so many free minutes????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!
Pisses me off
