Hi,

I am in the progress of erecting a 50ft tower in Midrand, Glen Austin.

I would like to know if anyone would be interested in using the tower for signal purposes

Thanks

Why are you erecting a tower?

and that's only 15m. Is three stories tall for Glen Austin?

Staying under 15m to avoid confrontation with the municipality, besides there's really no proper internet in Glen Austin which kinda says the tower should have use. But yea nothing.
The WUG guys were not much help either
The signal would be too scared to go to Cape Town MKFrost :P

Just to clear the misunderstanding regarding free standing mast/towers.
Any free standing mast/tower must be applied for to your local municipality (national building regulations) it fall under the department of planning and urban management, building control:outdoor advertising.

It does not matter if the mast/tower are three or one hunder meters, when its standing on its own it must be applied for.
You can contact [email protected] or tel (011) 407-6360

I urge the guys to follow the right channels, you are spending money to put the towers up,they can make you take it down.

I run a professional high site company and know legislation.

what If I had a 3m ladder that can stand on it's own, do I have to apply for that too?

What about my swingball set?

Depends on whether you're playing or not.
You also shouldn't leave your pool brush standing upright against a wall

I'm in Glen Austin as well, had Ambobia over the other day but there are so many big trees around here the 5.8ghz range wont work for me.. So i don't know what to do now.

There is one on corner Celliers St & Olifantsfontein Rd and another cnr Van Riebeeck & Olifantsfontein Rd - is this not a duplication?
Will your tower be ISP dependent?

Na mine is corner Dale and Hampton Rd. Just opposite Eskom. Right now the towers empty so anything goes, I just really need to get the tower to work.
MDKza, thats what motivated me to get a tower up... Back in 2008 I done a lot of research to get internet on my plot just to find out that there was nothing at all, the closest was Screamer coming from Kempton Park side but it was just too far, checked with them a few months ago and they lost that highsite as well. The other was Emcom which is now gone. Glen Austin is one big dead zone well atleast on the east side, thus a tower was a good idea

im in austin road, and unfortunately its in the valley, so none of the towers mentioned will help me. Going to have to get a 100ft pole set up.

I am in Belvedere Road, between George and Olifantsfontein, and too feel your pain, out of reach of WuG's and Wisps. I've got a 512 WiMAX though
Have you managed to connect to any providers yet?

What is on these towers Mitos. Anything usable for consumer Internet provision?

Managed to get one Wisp, www.bsit.co.za 1mb line, (so far I'm quite impressed) transmitting from President Park. They are using 5.8ghz UBIQUITI equipment so lucky enough they can blast thru pine trees. but I'm just getting a internet connection from them, not renting like i wanted to.... atleast the towers got some kind of use. And no crap from any govern(bastard)ment dept. or official as yet :P

How the speeds. I can source the Ubiquiti stuff myself if i need to. What dish are you using?
