Without a doubt 5770, similar performance, Dx11, much lower power draw and better thermals. To name a few
 
definitely second hand.

I dont think this will change anything but club3d 5770 and sapphire 4870

I'd also like to know which i'd get a similar price for if i resold it fairly soon
 
I had the same choice, landed up going for the radeon 5770 but I paid R1400 brand new for it.
 
You will get next to nothing if you're going to try and sell the HD 4870, because it doesn't have DirectX 11 support, where as you can expect to get at least R800 or perhaps even R1000 if you're going to sell the HD 5770.
 
The 4870 shouldn't really be an option. With similar performance to the 4870, the 5770, with DX11, seem s like an obvious choice.

The new HD68xx series shouldn't be ignored though.

EDIT : missed the second hand part. /facepalm
 
and seeing as you are getting the 5770 for R100 cheaper than the 4870, you should have bought it already. ;)
 
i am running the 6870 great value 2 bad the drivers are not correct yet , but i got the 5770 for my wife and its a legend card , full HD sound and all that jazz is epic for a card in that price range, DX11 ftw also
 
@ chro, i just recently purchased a new 5770, but i am unable to test it as im still waiting for my mobo to arrive. How is the 5770 vs 6850? as i was considering selling this and getting the 6850, but i havent even opened the package yet lol.
 
Well, if you can basically sell the HD 5770 for what you paid for it, then it would be worth while to upgrade to the HD 6850 for sure.
 
@ pada, I would sell it if I had someone who is looking for 1.
