5770 or 4870

@ chro, i just recently purchased a new 5770, but i am unable to test it as im still waiting for my mobo to arrive. How is the 5770 vs 6850? as i was considering selling this and getting the 6850, but i havent even opened the package yet lol.
Which version did you go for? Is there a difference between MSI, Sapphire, Gigabyte and so on?

I purchased the asus version over the weekend. I went for asus as they allow you to increase voltage etc and still keep warranty as I had overclocking in mind, but still wanted to keep the warranty. But I don't have a motherboard yet, so like I said, I have not been able to try it yet.

As for the others, I really just think its down to customer service with regards to warranty, as all radeon 5770's have the exact same specs, regardless of who the manufacturer is.

I think most brand names give you 1-2 year warranty, but I know asus is a good option as they give you 3 years warranty. The card i have is found here, http://www.prophecy.co.za/asus-eah5770-cucore2di1gd5-radeon-5770-ddr5-128bit-pcie-p-63766.html

i am running the 6870 great value 2 bad the drivers are not correct yet , but i got the 5770 for my wife and its a legend card , full HD sound and all that jazz is epic for a card in that price range, DX11 ftw also

well I was thinking of getting the 6780 but, couldn't afford it... Is the 5770 even better? Because I don't know what the price range is... I have a 4830, so I guess either one would be a good upgrade hey?

I agree, At the end of the day it's better to take what you can afford than what you cant afford.

If anyone is interested in purchasing my 5770 then drop me a pm.

Forget the 5770, get either a nvidia 460, 6850 or 6870. 5770 is overly priced for it's performance now. You should rather get a 460 if you are budget limited. If you could squeeze a bit out for a 6850 then cool.

If you are budget limited the 460 is a good choice unless the 6850 drops in price

+1 !

Seeing that you can get a Gainward GTX 460 768MB card for R1400 (incl VAT, ex shipping) and a VTX3D HD 6850 for R1650, I really don't know how anyone would even consider getting an HD 5770, unless they can get one for R1000 or less.
It's really amazing how the prices dropped on those cards. I mean, I've paid R2300 in middle of July, this year, for my Inno3D GTX 460 768MB!!!

Well i want to try to get the 6870... but don't know how i'm going to manage with the 2 6-pin connectors...
Wait.. does the 6850 also need to have a 2x6-pin connector?

anyway, i see the 5770 is a product on it's way out.. Thanks anyway..

Well I guess cards are always dropping.. Sigh... I want to get another Hdd as well.. but anyway.. I guess a 68xx will do the job for another 2/3 years? mm.. so hard to decide when you don't know anything lol..

But anyway, I think i asked enough on this post..

Thanks

where can I find this R1400 460?

NO CARD LASTS LONGER THEN A YEAR (or two like when nvidia went through a slump with the 8 and 9 series but that was back when ati wasn't even in the game[see what i did there:D]) mm.. so hard to decide when you don't know anything lol..

kai you know you shouldn't even be thinking about a GPU upgrade without replacing your power supply

and there's a massive gap in performance between a 4830 and 6870. If I were you I'd go find a gtx 260/4870/5770 for a R1000 or less somewhere and a couple of months later upgrade again to the current cards (the gtx 460's price is dropping pretty fast)

Just slow down for a bit and think about it... what game are you about to play right now that requires you to have a 6870 and if there is a game would it kill you to play something else for a while.

look here to see all the 2009 cards better then your current card (which is tenth from the bottom)

reedOsama: you can get that Gainward GTX 460 768MB at WootWare for R1399.

Another pretty good deal is the GTS 450 for like R1120 at Rebel-Tech. You might even get it cheaper somewhere else.

seen as though im stuck with a new 5770, what do you guys think if i get another 5770 (2nd hand, cheap 1, under R1000) and go crossfire?

If your PSU is capable of it (500W+), and your motherboard too, then go for it :)

At one stage this (2x HD 5770) was a better option than going for a single HD 5870.

600w omega power supply and the asus p7p55d-e pro motherboard. I'm sure that will do the trick won't it. Now I just need to find a 2nd hand 5770 (the same model as mine), but I have put a request under the wanted section.
