5G connection stability

Why do you stay... I had faster 3G speeds.

50mb on 5G IMO is just unacceptable... Can't even call it 5G
Dude, honestly, because it's cheap and plug and play (no cable install, router costs, or 24 month contract).

I'm well aware 5G technology is capable of so much more. But I am also on the basic package, which covers my needs and is officially promoted as up to 25mbps. I would have been happy on their 4G R479 package too if it had delivered the promised 10mbps but it did not, and I had enough. 5G basic at R499 is basically the same cost, and they claim their 5G network is much better and does not suffer from the same congestion issues as 4G. Time will tell if this is indeed the case.

Since this is a forum, I like to discuss and bring to light any issues I've found so other users can be aware and/or corroborate.

Definitely the first signs of oversubscription. My tower randomly goes down and the router will not connect to the nearest healthy tower. Have 3 towers within 3km and i cant even latcg onto one. Calling support is useless since all they will say is that there is an alarm on your tower and there is no other healthy tower to get you on to. Seems the network cannot grow at the same rate as new customer signups so this is an inevitability in my opinion

I loved rain. But unfortunately my tower went from 400mbs and gradually degraded to 50mbs and less in peak times. And these tests where running on the rain server on speedtest.net. Was very sad that I had to cancel but unfortunately when netflix or youtube buffers all the time I can't accept that.

The telkom 2TB package has been great so far. No speed issues. No shaping of certain traffic. And it just works.. Like internet should.

Look how it downloads torrents not that many people still do this but you can see it's not shaped or throttled. Screenshot_20220616_162645_com.utorrent.client_edit_180123347542589.jpg
