I bought 5 Tablets from Takealot on Christmas for the kids. The Chargers all failed...

I bought one of those selective charges where you can select the voltage but it has no 5v option only 4.5v. It's doing it's bit but I need to find 5v chargers somewhere. Anyone know where?

Its a good question. I want to know where you found the selective charger, havent seen one of those in ages. I presume is has different connectors too?

Yes, it has a 4 star like pin and then 2 separate ones. So 6 connectors in total. Was from a little Indian shop close to our house. Think it was R 60

I assume that's the round power pins? Chargers that work off a USB port are quite plentiful, but probably not the round ones.

I've found some of these type of power supply to be very innacurate - one I have here, if selected to 9V actually outputs 12.6 volts. The other voltage selections on it are just as bad.

Yea the round one. looks likes similar to the old Nokia chargers.

O wait, the USB chargers run 5v?

There are some cheaper options from here, don't know the quality of these chargers. Site is a bit of a pain to navigate, but they have a lot of these USB chargers available.

That will work, now to find an old Nokia charger. But the older ones never had a USB charger, they had that funny shape USB cables.

You could almost buy a new cheap nokia for R200 and just use that charger (or have they stopped supplying chargers with the phones now?). Only problem is making sure you have the right size plug on the charger, most phones have gone to the thin round plug.

I see now there are different sizes. 2mm - 3.5mm. might be an idea to take my switch with to a cash crusaders and check the plugs of the old phones.

Will the Phone charger also be 5v? Sorry for the stupid question I just never checked. A normal Nokia one will work I'm sure, but not the newer thin one. It's the 3.5mm one. If the normal charger will work I can always buy a charger somewhere. I'll see maybe have an old one laying around somewhere in a box.

I'm 100% sure it's 3.5 since the hole is the same size as the Headphone jack. Only that the Headphone jack is male as to where the charger seems to be a female type one.

Both of these versions can be found as Nokia chargers. The older Nokias had a 3.5 it was then down sized to the 2mm one.
