You use them just like regular disk drives AFAIK..
The big thing about solid state is no moving parts, which results in higher reliability (no wear and tear on moving parts)
Lower power consumption (no disks to spin) = longer battery life for laptops!!
Also of course an increase in speed (you no longer have a set of heads which pyhsically need to move over a disk)

I can't actually say..Except that USB drives are slower than harddrives, are these definitely faster?
