The new 64k sim cards are now available from Vodacom. It was made for the 3G phones and wireless connect card.If you bought a VODAFONE wireless connect data card or a 3G phone on contract.Vodacom will post you 1 for FREE and dial 082155 for activation or visit your nearest vodashop with the 64k card
for activation. When you buy a new 3G phone or Vodafone wireless connect data card.DEMAND FOR A 64K simcard.Stores will not give you one for free if you dont have Quiksim/Lcp on you account. These new cards should be instores from next week.......These 64k cards will improve your 3g experience......Check your mail if you bought 3g

What is "quicksim/lcp" and what email should i check? I don't get any email from Vodacom, just my bill in the mail... Something tells me they don't even know i have a 3G card [even though i got it as part of my contract].

Oh and how much will the 64K sims cost anyway, since odds are i will not get it free. (There's always some catch with this sort of thing)

64k sim cards for 3g

LCP/QUICK SIM is an insurance for your sim card it cost R5,00pm for LCP and R3,00pm for Quicksim.Vodacom does know how many 3G customers they have if you bought a contract. When i said check your mail i mean check your mail box @ your post office or where you receive your mail..............CHECK YOUR MAIL(POSTOFFICE) for your free 64k sim card if you bought a 3G product.Price is unknown yet but i dont think it will retail more than what we are paying now.But i will confirm prices as soon as i get them

If it is the same process as for the atenna's it may be safer to call them and find out when it will arrive.

.......These 64k cards will improve your 3g experience.

Can any one elaborate on this statement? What exactly is the difference and what elements of 3g are better?

There's been some anecdotal evidence that the 64K SIMs help with the connection and bearer-switching processes. Not with throuput or signal strenght.

I say 'anecdotal' as we've not had a big enough sample yet, to make the improvements statistically significant. 64K SIMs up to now have been more scarce than hens teeth.

We'll continue with the tests and if it's shows that it improves the quality of your connection, you'll get a full report here. And probably......

Vodacom will post you 1 for FREE
Would that be the same adress as your billing addy?

Can we get a free antenna with a 3G phone? Or do you need a datacard?

Yes the 64k sim card will be posted to the address where you get your Vodacom statement.......The antenae for the wireless connect data card must be picked up by you from the VODASHOP you signed the contract with

Yes, a 32K SIM will also work, but we have found better stability in connecting and switching between bearers with the new 64K USIMs.

Also, you have more space (extra 32K) to load apps onto the card.

The cards will start shipping to you today via snailmail (sorry no downloads :D ), and are complementary, i.e. you get them for free, but must register them onto the network as soon as you've received them.

Please post back here with your feedback on using the USIMs.

Below, the letter you'll receive with the SIM:

Dear 3G Customer

NEW 64K SIM CARD

Our relationship with Vodafone has enabled us to bring you technologies such as the Vodafone Mobile Connect card. We are pleased to announce that we have just received the latest 64K SIM card, which improves the performance of the Vodafone Mobile Data Connect card.

As one of our early adopters of this new technology, we have enclosed your complimentary 64K SIM card, which replaces your current 32K SIM card and will enhance your experience even further.

To activate this new card, all you need to do is call Customer Services on 082155 and quote the details below:

3G Cell Number: >MSISDN<
SIM Number: 894400000000055….. (The full unique SIM number is printed on the SIM Card)

Thank you for your continued support

Yours sincerely

So does this mean that I don't have to do anything? Vodacom will know that I upgraded to a 3G V800i and automatically send me a new USIM?

I am not sure if it is relevant to 3G phone users since from what I understand it is only being sent to users of the 3G connect data card. Sure v3g will be able to confirm if he hasn't by the time I hit post.

Have already asked the question, waiting for a reply.

I don't know of any connection issues with the handsets, rather only with datacards.

Will revert as soon as I know, but I suspect it's only for the data cards.

I think 3G phone user will also get the new 64K card because Vodacom told all trade partners to sell only 64k card to people who buys any 3G product

v3g
Does this mean that we will have 2 sim cards with the same cell number or will the 32k sim be rendered useless once we have activated the new sim? How long will the activation take, 24 hours?

Your 32K SIM will be deactivated and can be binned. Only the 64K USIM will work.

This will happen some time after you had it activated, probably within the normal 24 hour period.

Don't do what I did when I upgraded my SIM:

I had it activated and kept on working on the 32K SIM. Then at some point, I could not connect and after blaming everything else for being disconnected, I realised my 64K SIM had gone live! Inserted it and all was well again.

Still scraping egg of my face..... :o

Lol @ v3g. Glad to see that even working for Vodacom still means you can miss the basic and simple mistakes we all make at some point or another. I am holding my breath waiting for my new SIM and hope snail mail improves.

Then again my BDay cards from the UK is already 3 weeks late but the DVD's I ordered from Amazon already arrived... Go Figure.

Received my new 64k card yesterday and it is now activated and appears to be working well. I am interested in what kinds of improvements we are likely to see:

Are we going to get a better signal in previously patchy areas?

Are we going to get faster download times? (I remember reading somewhere that the 3G infrastructure was going to to be upgraded to 1Mb per second at some point, is this correct?)

Issues like signal strength and throughput are a function of the radio components in your card and the network, so I don't believe you'll see any significant improvement here.

The USIM is part of the 'management' component of the card, so you should see improvements here. Typically things like time to connect, connection stability and switching between bearers are the kind of things we've seen improve.

Please pass on your feedback!

64k Sim

I am sure there was a thread on this but cannot find it.

Got mine in the post today. called 155 and 5 minutes later 64k was active. So far, speed looks good. How are other people finding it?
