You have never uninstalled the vga card? Odd. I was assuming postman had done all the uninstalling nvidia, then remove the hardware type efforts. If you have postman enjoy the fresh reload bud :D.

Perhaps buying a dx 11 to use on windows xp is a sign to change?

Followed Archer's advice (how brilliant is this oke?! Seems to have filled The_Techie's shoes in his study leave :D) and uninstalled the card in device manager. Removed Nvidia stuff in Add/Remove. Relaunched DS and was able to remove both graphics cards' reg entries. Reinstalled CCC drivers, and now all seems to be well.

Youtube vids are playing. ;)
Still getting some strange "artifacting" or whatever on the forum. :( Gonna try Chrome.

Scary thing, after uninstalling Nvidia drivers in DS, upon reboot and in Windows, the card's fan would race to 100%/4500RPM. :eek: Got quite a fright, and I was sniffing for anything burning. :D

Lol, well I'm glad its working a bit better now, although I'm stumped as to why you still have some issues on your web browser. Which one you using? Do you get the artifacts only in your browser, or in other programs too?
 
If you're getting artifacts with your graphics card, then your graphics card's memory is most likely damaged.

I've had a Radeon 9200 which worked perfectly for Windows XP, but as soon as I tried to view anything that required hardware acceleration (games / movies) then I got artifacts.
You can download the Video Memory Stress Test application to test the graphics card's memory.

Using Firefox. Older version of Opera does the same. Google Chrome seems to be fine... :eek:

Perhaps a reinstall of Firefoxis in order.

I played a game of SC2 last night and everything was fine, besides the lag... :D

Point taken. Have already stressed though, etc. and everything seems fine.
 
Try the oven trick and see if it works. You have nothing to loose

Furmark for 25 minutes.

And also, switching to Chrome stops the strange behaviour I'm getting in Firefox, so I'm thinking it's something to do with Firefox itself.
 
Run that memory stress test app that I've given the link for. I'm pretty sure that it will find a fault!

I think killadoob is right about Windows XP being a bit messed up.
 
It sure sounds like it.

Sadly xp can get messed up by simply changing vga cards. Besides a fresh reload would have solved your problems long ago and if it didn't at least you ruled that out before spending hours and hours trying to figure it out.

With xp my first reaction to a problem i could not sort in 15 minutes was a reload. 1 hour install and if the problem is there all you lost was an hour, now you still have issues after spending countless hours looking for the problem which may well be the OS.

When you reload xp you are ensuring it is not software related. You have no conflicting drivers, no BS build up in the reg etc.

So then I can basically sell my 5850 and get myself 2x 6850's?Cause they aren't that more expensive than 2 x 5770's?
