So, I got myself an iPad with 3G and went shopping for a data provider. 8.ta seemed to have to best value for money with their 10Gig for R200 offering, so I signed up at the beginning of November. 24 days later, my total utilisation is 800Mb. Why? Because 8.ta SUCKS. I got the contract so that I can connect the iPad to the internet at work. Their coverage map clearly shows plenty of 3G coverage at my offices, yet I'm lucky if I get one bar of EDGE here. (Oh, and just so that you know, 8.ta don't have a roaming agreement with MTN on this bundle like they do with their normal traffic.)

I contacted their (un)helpdesk several times and logged queries through their web portal. I'd even sent mail to that 8.ta guy on this very forum. Nothing. No concern, no care, no action, no network and now, 8.ta, no contract and no money from me. You can shove it. I should have known better than to use Telkom for anything. I'll be cancelling and glad to be rid of you.

I don't like them too however, you should have known better! I got me a 8ta simcard for 1Rand and checked the coverage first. But then again one need a bit of intelligence to figure such a complex thing out :D

Problem now is I also did this check and fora month had decent speeds but as you will see after a month those speeds go bye bye

Ok. Thanks for letting me know. If that's the case I will save myself the trouble. 8ta is quickly turning into a giant white elephant.

I got an 8ta SIM from a friend.

RICA'd it and everything. That was the easiest part.

The more difficult part was cutting the SIM down to size to fit into the iPad. But I managed that, after several attempts. (One reason to get a lot of un-RICA'd SIMs and try cutting out according to the template)...

Anyways, those two steps was the easiest of them all.

Then I went to the ipad 8ta portal - and could not proceed any further :(

Voiced my concerns in the 8ta thread. The rep took my details, etc... and I'm still waiting.

Nee wat, dis 'n mors van tyd die. Telkom sal Telkom bly.
