Ok Beat the Bean i dunno if ure just having a sulk because you stopped your Telkom ISP account, and now, no-one is getting capped.

Just be happy that for once were getting something for the amount of money we pay.

You migght think 3Gigs enough, like some guy will think a corsa will be fine. You will still get the odd few who go and buy a ferrari though.

And calling us Scum, so because we use internet how Telkom says it should by the way, we are now low lifes. Suppose you feel high on your 3Gig pedestal there, mwahaha look at all the abusers, what low lifes. Your just another one of the South African Consumers that bends over for these monopolies and passes Telkom the anal Lube.

If we never go against and just accept it, in 2030, we going to be excited because we now have 2Mb internet, oh and they made the cap 1Gig, but hey who uses more than 1Gig, meanwhile overseas, 10gigabit connections will be the norm, and they will still be uncapped.

But hey why not all just give in, i mean telkom is always right, oh and so is the all high beatthebean, bow down and give them the anal lube.

If you are downloading anything and everything just to trade and get "kudos", I hope they bill your ass for that 80gb of data. You know, the DC+/Limewire "l33t" tossers who trade warez without giving a sh#t about what the data contains.

Imagine what things wud be like if no1 shared and all we did do was download only what we wanted. Sure, with out caps its coming down to that.. but please try to fight the leech in you.

Imagine u were trying to get a linux distro of which the only source is a slow int'l server or your int'l is capped. You try to download off a local p2p network and u get even worse speeds as only 2ppl have it because the world has lost the "l33t" tossers.

@scooby. i understand what u are saying but at the moment the "abusers" are only a small minority thats been said by telkom and another thing give ppl the freedom to download what they want after a month or two it will calm down a lot its one of those things if ur allowed to do something its not much fun as when ur not allowed too

Yay I'm at 108GB now!

Ok here is some of the stuff I have downloaded so far:
I use linux alot and decided to download most of the major distrubutions of linux and other lookalikes, then I updated my current gentoo end debain systems to latest packages.
I also watch alot of anime and I more than 30GB of the that is anime.
Then there is are the movies and tv series.
DSTV atm is so behind/not showing alot of the tv series that are exelent so tv series also take a big bite.

Remember I use bit torrent and I when my downloads are finished i dont close the client,I keep it open and seed the stuff so that is why my usage is so high.

For all the people on this forum who has gone and insulted me/other high bandwidth users I can only say: I forgive you and I hope that you will see that we are not low life scum, idiotic kiddies.

Now plz go run to telkom and beg them for the leash and tell them to protect you from the big bad wolves

If your just downloading for the sake of it, your a bloody idiot.

If someone derives entertainment from downloading huge amounts of essentially useless information, who are you to judge them? People do a lot of things simply for fun, having fun does not automatically make you an idiot even if your preferred fun activity seems pointless to others.

Calling P2P users "l33t" tossers I am sure will do wonders for your credibility. Much like the people who collect stamps and never use them to post any letters so too will some P2P users collect data without any need or intention of using it. Some do it for some altruistic motive, some for personal recognition, some may have other reasons. None however will do it for no reason at all.

All of this is however somewhat irrelevant and trivial, the key issue I think is that there appears to be a perception amongst some members that if you go along with whatever Telkom tells you, you will get a better deal. This sounds like slaves hoping to gain freedom by being good loyal little slaves. oober is defying the system, when everyone stops doing what Telkom wants, that is when the consumer will win and find emancipation.

Everyone should download 80G, if only to prove to Telkom that 3G is not enough - that would be reason enough for me.

I believe there is nothing wrong with d/l over 80 gigs. For the people who argue that it is these few excessive individuals who rune it for everyone it is not. Telkom blames their policies on these people but it is Telkom who is to blame. It is so easy for Telkom to limit these few individuals if they wanted to. Instead they hide behind these few individuals and blame them for their policies. Its pretty lame the way a huge corporate can blame a few when they have the control and recourses. Telkom wants R7.5 billion profits and they are going to find the excuses to achieve that.

Also most of these high users use local bandwidth. As many of you will be aware, Telkom is planning to launch DSTV over the internet. The bandwidth required is 4mbps. They wouldnt implement such a service if there wasnt sufficient local bandwith. 80 gig for local is therefore nothing. In addition, I think we are better equiped for local distribution as there are no usage fees that Telkom has to pay other providers for the use of their networks as Telkom owns it all.

One last thing, the way people are slandering each other and using abusive terms for the heavy users is counter productive to what the forum is about. If you have a problem you are obviously at liberty to say so on this forum but don't start getting personal. Its childish and shows the kind of mentality that you have. If you have a point or whish to impress it upon someone, using silly terms is going to get nowhere.

well i wanna get my moneys worth....I WORK for it...i pay lotsa a $$$ for a service which has restrictions.........so screw all you okes who feel that we abusing bandwidth. If u paying for a service...frak that..use the bloody thing. its our hard earned money thats being used. Obviously i missed the part where Telkom s mandate included the policing of international copyright laws. They should start raiding Game, Makro and hifi corperation who are now selling dvd players capable of playing divx movies. While theyre at it why dont you loby goverment to ban double tape decks.

Obviously downloading tv series etc. from illegal sources would be illegal - so I guess the question is, is there any law in SA from downloading from legal sites (like tv shows, or videos from the iTunes store etc.). I don't know, but my guess would be there is no law that prevents that, however the movie studios, and record labels make it very difficult to download from those legal sources outside of the territories which they are intended for. Hence the tv/musics studio give international users no choice except to go to illegal sources because they won't provide the content internationally.

OK lets assume your a linux fan and truly proudly South African. Youd certainly want to give our free local distro Ubuntu a run. So you download it (thats 600mb) then you install and it asks if you want to download and install the extra packages and of course you do (thats just under 3 gigs if i remember correctly.)
You almost have it fully installed when Telkom hardcaps. Assuming you can afford it you buy another 3 gig account and Telkom has effectively charged you R500 to download a free operating system.
Telkom makes more money from copyrighted materials than the producers of those materials so f(&* them ill be proudly abusing there inefficiency until they figure out how to stop me.

Yes we can have something like this:

They can devide members up into categories according to how much they pay.

Bronze members(R300): These members are allowed legal local content only and they are still only given 3GB of bandwidth.

Silver Members(R500): These Members can download 3GB of anything be it local or international, but they are still only allowed legal downloads.

Gold Members(R900) : These lucky folks who can afford this much for adsl gets a whopping 10GB of bandwidth but still can only access telkom pre approved websites.

Titanium Members(R3000) Now these guys, they are the real fat cats. They are the type who can afford being charged with breaking the copyright law and just shrug it off. They will be given a HUGE 30GB of bandwidth and will be allowed to visit any website they like.

This is offcourse excluding the line rental

Imagine the profit on this sceme!
