This may be a noob question but google is not giving me a straight answer.

I have an XFX 8500GT 256MB. I am currently running two 22" monitors very happily off it. I do no gaming or any heavy graphics work.

Will the same card support two 24" screens running at 1920 x 1200?

Thanks

Edit: It says its max external res is 2560 x 1600 but it's already doing more than that running two monitors at 1680 x 1050 is it not?
:)

I am not 100% sure, but I think it will support two 1920 24" monitors

I have an 8600GT and I have both a 1920x1080 and a 1680x1050 running off it. So I think the max res 2560x1600 is each monitor.

Graphics cards support massive resolutions. You'll be fine.

Technically, the 2 1680 x 1050 displays are separate resolutions. This limit is imposed because of limited bandwidth in the transmission medium (the cable, say). I order to transmit information for larger resolutions (i.e. extra data in the same period), a larger bandwidth would be required.

/jumps in on a tangent

What 22" monitors are those?
Are you upgrading and selling them?

I'm considering getting a partner for my 2233GW - let me know if you're selling :p

/end tangent

... didn't I promise myself not to spend anymore money on my PC... :o :(

great stuff :)

Decisions decisions

Argh!

I'm really torn.
Do I look at getting a newer GPU/2nd monitor/gaming case?

even if you don't buy mine, 2 monitors is the best upgrade you can make. I promise :)

If you don't game then maybe....I still can't really find a use for the second one :o My bet would be one the GPU upgrade :D

Thing is I do game.

But have become so accustomed to dual monitors at the office.
So much so, that it's becoming irritating to use mulitple windows/apps at home on one monitor. :o

So been thinking about the Force3d 4850 1GB @ Prophecy for R1468.55.

The case I could live without for another month or so, or longer really - it's merely for astheatics which really is not a need as such.

But then again - is anything a need on my list? :D :erm: :p

hmmm, seems to be monitor vs GPU. i know what i'd go for but i don't game so that makes it tougher for u...:p how is that 8800GTS treating u?

Oh it's running smoothly :)
Nice and quiet!
Only thing about upgrading the GPU is purely for wanting to see what difference I would see with a 1GB card.

The only game I'm playing at the moment that really requires a heavy duty card is GTA IV.
Though I still have COD5, Burnout Paradise and GOW that I have to try out with it.

/note to self to get keygen for those games again...

Now that I can completely understand.:)
Three monitors make more sense to me than 2 TBH :D

On the subject of dual monitors?

What about a 40inch Plasma or LCD TV to serve as 2nd monitor?

How is that working out for the peeps out there that are doing that?
