for those who want to go and buy this one have a read on this site first

GeForce 7600 GT vs GeForce 8600 GT

The results really spoke for themselves, as the GeForce 8600 GT was 12% slower in Far Cry, 17% slower in F.E.A.R, 7% slower in X3: Reunion and 19.5% slower in Company of Heroes. The only two games that the 8600 GT came out on top in was Prey (15.5%) and Supreme Commander (27.5%), making a two out of six effort very poor indeed.

Are the results the same on other reviews? I know it looses out slightly on a few games, but I don't remember it being this bad :/

It will however probably out perform t in newer titles and obviously in DX10 games, which it can actualyl run in DX10 :p

It's still not badly priced for DX10 if you want/need that.

oh and remember that the card will run alot slower because dx9 doesn't know what to do with the little unified processors and unlike the 8800xxx's it doesn't have the power nor the 320bit bus to fall on. but expect to play dx10 games with a surprise. and the reason why it out performed the 7600gt in 3d mark is because the 8600gt can do things like physics and lighting

lighting -> thunder struck (acdc) ? hehe

It's not really surprising that the games are not optimised to use its architecture. But as many have said, when DX10 games come out that's where its gonna tell.

but I'm really disappointed in nvidia for not putting a 256bit memory bus... the 8600gts suffers tremendously from this lack of bit memorybus, as the memory is an astounding 2000mhz ddr3, and the core clock is 675mhz... i can only imagine the power it will turn out if they add a 256 bit memory bus, and if you think about it, it could bridge the gap between the 8800gts 320 mb, and the 8600gts,

As much as the 128-bit bus is a massive problem, its not the only problem. Consider that the 7600GT has the same bandwidth as the 8800GT, yet it much slower :/
32 stream processors were never a good idea, 64 was the magic number.

ya... but tey spent SOOO much money on high memory and core clocks that they had no cash left for the "stream processors", i think they should release a 8800gs with 48 stream processors and a 256 bit memory bus, it will need 48 stream processors through, and keep the same memory and core speeds as the 8600gts and they will have a monster beast, and the sell it in the R2500-R3000 zone to close the gap
