hey peeps i heard that telkom are testing 8mb line for the next fastest line speed...

8mbit seems a really odd jump (unless bonding), maybe ADSL2+ up to 24mbit. But unfortunately, with the poor state of the telephone lines and exchanges, that will be pretty hard to achieve for the normal user.

Utterly pointless with current bandwidth costs and our pathetic excuse for international bandwidth speeds.

A joke, as usual with telkom and south africa.

I've heard this as well, but like has been said; pointless without cheaper line rental and bandwidth costs.

No its not pointless think of it with an 8mb line and an 3 gig cap how fast will you reach your cap then telkom can make even more money coz then you need to buy more cap they very very smart man... :p

8mbs with 3g cap - ZOMG i can't wait !!!!

isnt the max speed for ADSL 8mb (as long as you're basically within spitting distance of the dSLAM?).

You are right, but as you said, you gotta be pretty damn close. I think under 0.8km, with some good quality lines, you might be ok. Not very practical in a South African setting though.

I think you meant to say "ZOMG my cap is smoked."

I don't think the overall network can handle 8mbit. My router reckons it can do about 7-9mbit on the line and I think I've got one of the better lines.

8mb only makes sense once the 3 undersea cables hit and the per mb price tanks.

Oh well, nice try to get more capped users, I suppose...

I only get 2Mbps at home, but it's sufficient for now, until the price per gig drops!

this will be such a joke....8mb line...how much will 1GB cost you????? $$$$$$$$ i pay R350 a month wireless 128k line uncapped....i can get roughly 1.2GB per day at full capacity
