8ta 10GB deal

Hi all,

So i have downloaded MDMA and am using an 8ta Go Big 10GB sim card in a Vodacom K3565-Rev2 Modem...

I can pickup the SIM and network, but cannot connect to it. Does anyone know what setup i need to put in place to make this work? Your help will be very much appreciated :)

The SIM for my 10Gig plan was activated today, and the below is the data status displayed on the 8ta web site.

Included Data - 10 GB
GPRS : 8919 MB remaining 0 MB used.
Should the available amount be closer to the 10 GB mark ?

Looks right to me as you activated after the 1st. So it will be pro rata.

10gb = 10240mb

31 days in jan. therfore 10240/31 = 330.32mb / day

today is the 5th so 10240 - (330.32*4) = 8918mb

You will only get the full 10gb if you activate on the first.

Can anyone comment on the 8ta 10Gb deal for gaming particularly the war3 twilight gaming server. I'm looking at getting the E367 Modem for the 21Mps speeds. I used to have the 2Gb CellC Package and got unstable pings of 120+. Is 8ta better?

8ta speeds

8ta speeds right now is not even okay for email much less gaming or anything else.

They reduced the backhaul to their network or something because even the telkom sites and 8ta sites are slower then usual.

I wish 8ta would get their performance back up to speed, this slowness in Lenasia and JHB CBD. Doesnt matter what signal strength or modem i use.

Helpdesk no help either, all they can confirm is that they have a problem with their internet. And here i was singing their praises a few weeks ago :(

E367 is R699 - good price for that modem (excellent, with external antenna connection) !

Yes I saw that, it's what convinced me to go for the 21 Mbps modem. Is anyone able to play any games "comfortably"? Dota as far as I know is very low on bandwidth, it just requires a fast constant speed, that's why I'm hoping the 21Mbps modem will provide a better avg speed than my 7.2Mbps.

In normal browsing (when data is used occasionally) HSPA+ modem helps, not only because of maximal speed, but because it comes to the speed quicker. One of the feature HSPA+, it is called "always on" - in marketting terms.

I know browsing is very fast but what does this say for gaming?

In my experience (on CellC though), burst speeds can be very fast, but the speeds are rarely sustained for long periods. What I'm trying to say is that, in my experience, HSPA+ is not reliably fast the whole time. Which is fine for browsing or anything that may buffer, but it's probably bad news for something which requires a fast connection in more-or-less real time (like gaming).

Yes I saw this with CellC and I'm hoping 8ta (being and affiliate of Telkom and all) would be able to provide a more stable connection as well as by using the 21Mbps modem.

Those speeds aren't too bad. Have you got some details on what modem you have and what your signal strength is like?

+1 id say thats average. Like Speedster says check your modem and signal strength especially for that speed would be more your concern. Factors such as HS contention you cannot control.
