Hi Guys,

I spoke to 8ta, and they told me the only way to get my data balance is to:

USSD: *188#

OR Send blank sms to 188

I have my modem connected to a TP-LINK 3420 modem so I have to disconnect this and run through my PC to check my data balance which is a mission :)

Does anyone know of any other ways to check balances?

Thanks for the help

no other way. You can also put it in a phone and sms for balance.

I subscribed on the 10Gb deal. I used 686 MB, have 7902 available??

This doesn't compute!

When did you sign up ?

If it was recent I would assume you have only been credited with 8500meg because you havent started a "fresh month"

We that signed up on the 26th june (when it launched) only got 1.3 gigs as it was close to the end of the month, on the 1st July I got the full 10gig

Hi, when you send a blank sms to 188 or use the *188# USSD function, you are then suppose to get a SMS with your data balance.
If you are not getting this, then please email you contact details and 8ta number to social@8ta.com so that we can investigate.
Thank you

Make sure you're using the same ID number that you RICA-ed the SIM with. I know some people had that issue when, for example, they'd RICA-ed using their wife's ID and therefore had to use that to register.

Send both ID number and cell number to email address above. Telkom could just entered the details incorrectly as I registered at Telkom office with my ID and get sim from them. (On the other hand the damn Telkom system said editor @ business-news.co.za (without spaces of course) is an invalid email address. Not very comforting that the monopoly holder in SA can't even recognise valid email addresses)

Use this link to register, then you can login and see your balances...

Thanks for this!

I have a similar situation with USB modem sitting in router high up against a wall making it hard to check the data balance.

Registration was easy except for the access code they SMS to the SIM sitting in the router which I have to access via ladder... hopefully for the last time because from now on I can check my data balance online with My 8ta :D

Excuse my ignorance/stupidity; I've got a TP-Link MR3420 using an 8ta sim - How/where do I set it up to send data balance sms's?

Have you tried going to onnet.8ta.com from a computer connected to the router over wifi?

I have, and I can see the balance, but I thought the SMS idea to be a pretty neat feature.

If I can't get the SMS thing going I'll stick to the webpage.
