8ta Erratic service Variable latency & variable speed

So no further word from 8ta, as expected. I've sent multiple mails to request an update on the complaint without a response. Today the timeouts were so frequent that I eventually gave up trying to use my pc internet and browsed on my phone.

I initially logged the complaint with 8ta on 7 February 2012. It has been more than 2 months now without resolution.

Where is it timing out? I was getting an insane lot of DNS timeouts - switching to google's public dns (8.8.8.8) solved a lot of this.
 
My 8.ta Internet 5 Promo (10GB+10GB) sim in my Huawei MTN wireless modem can receive HTTPS (Facebook or ABSA's secure web page), POP3 and SMTP (e-mail), Skype and MSN Messenger perfectly well, but I have had NO ACCESS at all to HTTP (normal web pages) since 15h45 this afternoon!

I could use Facebook, do an IBT on the ABSA website & use Skype quite happily - but was UNABLE to open ANY HTTP website for 4 HOURS and FIFTEEN MINUTES - until the HTTP service became available again at 20h00 tonight!

I tried removing and re-inserting the modem, disconnecting and reconnecting the service several times to no avail in the interim, so I wonder just what the issue was tonight with 8.ta?!

It's like this most nights. 8ta is semi-usable during the day, but later on it becomes utter rubbish. Tried playing dota2, ping spikes from 300ms to over 4000 in 10-15sec intervals. Browsing horridly slow, don't even try to download anything.
 
I think it's time 8ta gives us a heads-up on what's happening with their support and how they plan to address these problems.

I've had a call outstanding with them since the beginning of this month for exactly the same problems, without any result (or even a plan of action). Technicians have come to my premises, and left with promises to notify someone up the line of their findings, but all I hear from social@8ta is that "our engineers are aware of the problem".

By comparison, CellC would send a technician who would run the tests and then call them in while he was with me, and arrange for a tower fix at the same time (on the same night, twice, until it was fixed). (I really wish CellC's data was still affordable, because I really do miss that service and network performance.)

The past 24 hours have been nothing short of disastrous on this network. I'm beginning to think that 8ta lacks the competence to operate in this space.
 
Once again - today I had NO Internet access AT ALL between 11h00 and 14h45 - so in TWO days I have had NO HTTP access for a total of 7 hrs 45 mins (more or less ONE working day) - THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Ivan, I recently had no CellC access for a whole week and that after reporting the problem a couple of times
 
Well, I used to get 8-10 mbits/sec on my 8ta non roaming SIM, currently even MyBB forums will not load, international pages are even worse :(

Something, somewhere is seriously very broken, still get decent speeds on my Voda SIM, but my bundle is almost up and month end is still somewhat far.

My 8ta SIM is supposed to carry me to month end. :(

Stuck with my iPhone for internet ...

Well something happened overnight - I can get my e-mail and surf again, will do a speed test which was not possible last night.

Once again, I had NO INTERNET AT ALL from about 14h10 to about 16h00 yesterday afternoon - not even Skype or HTTPS access this time - a carrier pigeon with a USB drive attached to its claw is faster and more reliable than 8.ta's service!

Again the evening, was not worth bothering with, but this morning all was well again ...


8ta cannot handel the afternoon/evening peal or rush or whatever .... <sigh>
