Need to check with the rest of the peeps here. I been a customer of 8ta since they launched their i5 promo, and have been a very happy chappy until now.

The speed has slowed down to a crawl, and probably by the time I finish typing this on my blackberry, the mybb website will still be trying to load.

Is anyone else experiencing speed issues? Have there been notifications as to why we got slow speeds?

I still have about 7GB to go, so it isn't a cap issue, and my current RSSI is 75db.

Snap, thanks for the reply.

8ta rep, any idea if there are issues in albemarle / dinwiddie side?

8.ta! 8.ta! what can I say about it ,eish

I am also having pblems with 8.ta it comes and goes as I am on the net surfing ,its so frustrating
I have come to accept that ,and put the pblems on being in the township .Gosh .

Thing is I never had problems. Always had excellent signal, and decent speeds. This slow througput happened very unexpectadly. Hoping the issues will get resolved soon, or I might be the first dummy to test out the cpa and cancellation of contract with 8ta.

Yeah, I am experiencing this as well. Speed was always around 3Mbs download since I got it and now it's only 0.75Mbs according to speedtest. Has been really slow since last week. I'm in Randburg.

This could be spanner in the works for 8ta as far as me taking a contract with them is concerned.

I am seriously considering their 10gig promo. But after seeing this - serious questions.

I am already also experiencing much slower speeds. I do gaming on their prepaid showing as MTN. It has been giving me a lot more latency lately, which has made it inceasingly difficult for me to play games online.

Any word from 8ta?

The internet is back to normal today. Not sure what was wrong, and it wasn't a reboot, as I have rebooted the machine last night too.

I hope it stays like this for some time still, as these guys are the only affordable solution in my area. Telkom lines get stolen and no cell c coverage...

You really can't judge 8ta's network if you're roaming on MTN. Ask 8ta to open your SIM to their network, and test then. Currently MTN will give you lower priority than their own customers.

Maybe I can help you, can you tell some detail.
1, What level signal you were getting, you can click "tool" on the mobile partener's main menu, then select "diagnostics", then network status"", you can find RSSI, this show you signal level. IF you want to get a very good speed, the very good signal is needed. You can get a better signal near the window forward the tower. or you can install a Yagi Antenna to get a good signal. But the simple way is use USB extension , put the modem out the windows.
I alway do like this. you had better buy a good quality USB extension if your desk is far from the window. otherwise do not it when it is raining. the modem is not waterproof.
here, i give some reference . The speed is not just deponds on the signal level, it is also depends interference. if you are not in dense urban, the interference is not serious, If we do not considering the interfernce ( also depend on your modem, use 21m modem as a example)
when sginal is lower -110, if you can connect , you are very lucky
when your signal is about -100dBm, 500 Kbps is already very good. ( connection is not very stable
When your signal is around -90~-100 dBm, 1~2 mbps is luck
when your signal is -80 ~-90, 3~5mbps may can get.
when signal in -70-80dBm, maybe you can get about 8mbps
when signal above -70 dbm , maybe you can 10+ mbops

there are too much factors affecting the speed. this is just a approximate value.

2, how about the downspeed speed from the other websites,
3, is in MTN or 8ta network, the method is as same the first setup , you can find the netowrk name above the RSSI
4, disconnect wait monemnt and check how many bars your signal is
5, wether "disconect and connect"can fix your problem.

If you experience the same problem again, please email your 8ta number, contact details, physical address to [email protected]. Thank you
