I use 8ta for internet.

I use a Huawei B683.

I would like to buy a new router with is LTE capable in the 2300 Mhz band so I can enjoy the benefits of the LTE coverage I have. I have been to 2 8ta/Telkom stores and they seem to have no idea what device I might be able to purchase which will fill this need.

Is there anything available on the market which is compatible with 8ta's network?

The Huawei e593 is what you're after. It operates LTE using TDD on 2.3Ghz just like Telkom Mobile. Not sure where you can buy them in SA though. They are quite pricey overseas.

I was fortunate to have been on the trial and did receive the E593 from Telkom (8ta). It is a brilliant router and I can only recommend it. I also tested the VOIP functionality of the router on LTE and it was excellent.

Does it have a external antenna connection?

It is called receive diversity. Some devices have double receivers for increasing reliability of connection (processing the same data), or for doubling the channel capacity (two different data streams). It could be two internal or external antennas.

What I dont understand is there are very few router manufacturers out there that support 2300MHz, even the E5776 on the 8ta according to Huawei is NOT 2300 MHz compatible, so What frequency is 8ta REALLY using.

You can find the same with Cell C and others. Product is customised, but information on Web site shows standard specs. Expect if you buy from TM store, it will support TDD 2300MHz and also FDD frequencies used by other networks (as they are pretty standard). If you buy from others, it won't be a case. :)

For users looking to buy a TDD LTE Router that is capable of running on 8TA / Telkom Mobile's new TDD LTE network which runs in 2300 MHz (Band 40) frequency band you need to have a TDD LTE Router with fallback to HSPA+ (3G) / 2G.

Sigmatics provides a number of devices capable of this.

QDC is the Fixed Router and QDL is the MiFi Mobile Router

How does the QDC compare to the Huawei B593? Spec and price wise?
