i've been struggling to make this decision since the start of the year. currently on that 30gb 1mb line with telkom. constant access to news server at 104KB/s so thats fine. the R550 im paying however is not. i usually go over that and have to pay in. uncapped with telkom for 1mb will cost R800 which is to much. i have been testing the mweb uncapped this week but performance on their news server leaves much to be desired.

i have in the meantime loaded up the 2+1 deal from 8ta. speed ranges from 175KB/s to 270KB/s so the news server access flies. with the convenience of it being prepaid it appears to be a good deal. i would get the 60+60 though. although the minight surfer is bloody inconvenient to utilize. dont utilize those hours. so then i would need to schedule the downloads, something i havent explored yet but im sure sabnzbd is capable.

if i stay with telkom then i would go 384KB/s uncapped which costs R511 but then my speed would drop down to 40KB/s. i think the only reason im reluctant to cancel telkom is the wait to get back onto adsl if i decide to do so in the future. im leaning towards the 60+60 speedwise but being with telkom has its advantages.

so what would you do?

MWEB uncapped 1024 kbps (line rental included) for R588 p/m ?

What? O_o does mweb take over the administration of my line?

In that case, yes (which is generally not recommended). Alternatively keep your line with telkom and take the "Data Only" option for R299.

Does telkom allow you to just have the line with no data? My first choice would be to have my line with telkom. They reliable so far.

Yip - my line is with telkom and the data with MWEB.

EDIT: MWEB is just a suggestion. There's many other ISPs for you to choose. I'm happy with MWEB so far though.

So I just walk into a direct store and request it? No funny business after u get rid of their data?

R728 is a bit steep at this time. :( that's why I was considering the 384 uncapped @ 511

I suppose. Or just phone them.

Hmmm... I see.

EDIT: I initially had the 384 uncapped and used to get about 60-90 GB out of it monthly. Then I was lucky enough to move onto a 4meg uncapped option. Happy days as 250+ GB was the norm. The novelty wears off after a few months though.

At the moment I will need 11gig at the most. But in a couple of months when most series go into hibernation then my need will diminish. That's why economically R1800 makes sense for me. Speed is much better as well. Besides with a kid on the way the money could be spent otherwise. Thanx for your insight marty!
