so here is anther gfx card thread...sorry

so i only have a few bucks to spare (+-1,5K), and i am looking for an upgrade. now the 2 options (open for more though), is between a 9600gt 512 or the hd3850 option...

....maybe even the hd3650 as then i can also get guitar hero this month rather than the next

so opinions, suggestions etc please

Rather look for a second hand 8800GT.
If you are not considering 2nd hand goods (which is best value for money and low risk) I would take the 9600GT.

I'd go for the 9600GT. Stuff guitar hero. Get the opensource version called Frets on Fire. Works really really well, even more fun to play with.

I think the 9600GT is a bit faster than the 3850

yup, the 9600gt is a bit faster but suffers a wee bit in shader intensive games, HOWEVER, it performs much better with AA on the the 3850 (ok, not much but still better) because ati messed up the AA on the 3000 series

what games do you want to play, if guitar hero is all than get the 3650

don't have gh3 yet, currently playing gta4 and played cod4 before that...

...maybe looking at getting grid as assasins creed will have to wait for xbox, as i doubt it will run on my pc

where would one find a decent 2nd hand one?

otherwise i'll look for who offers the best price for a 9600gt

Mybroadband's classifieds sections, lot of people is selling their 8800GT or equivalent cards after upgrade to 4850.

I will probably post my card on there soon....

Go for the 9600GT. Prophecy have one for R1790. It's a great card. Otherwise, if you're willing to spend a little extra, get yourself the new HD4850 from ATI. They sell for about R2200.

Well for a 9600gt at R1790, (from the same place) the Inno3d 8800GT at R1994.89 doesn't seem far off!..

LOL you guys are terrible!
I'd go with the 9600gt. But IF you can russle up a wee bit of extra cash, go for that Inno3D 8800gt

As much of an Nvidia fan I am, I would rather spend R200 extra and get that Radeon instead of the 8800GT. It performs at about the same level as the new 9800GTX, which is clearly a better buy.
