On the vandalism of schools

We want to express our deep concern about what is happening in our schools since the lockdown was imposed. Province have reported that nine-hundred and sixty two (962) schools that have been vandalised in almost all our seventy-five (75) districts. The theft, vandalism and burglaries have taken place in all provinces. In almost all the incidents, administration blocks and laboratories have been targeted, and ICT equipment have been stolen.

Provinces have also reported that foodstuff, meant for the school nutrition programme, have also been stolen. The Umlazi District in KZN, is the hardest hit, with forty-one (41) schools affected. This is shocking and disturbing. We are extremely concerned by this level of criminality.

We welcome the work done by the Police thus far, in arresting the suspects, some of whom, were found in possession of the items believed to have been stolen from the schools.

The barbaric acts of vandalism, must be condemned by all of us. We cannot afford a situation where the education of our children is further compromised by criminals, over and above what the Corona Virus has brought upon us.

We appeal to members of the public, to work with the Police, to ensure that all the culprits in all the incidents of vandalism, theft and burglaries of our schools, are convicted and jailed for long periods.

Basic education minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday outlined the plans for schools to reopen. She announced that schools will reopen on June 1 for grade 12 and grade 7 pupils.

Well, if those people who know better and just did their part, the police would not have to bother with that. Just like if people stopped speeding so much, popo will have to focus on the moving violations more to earn their keep. If you give someone the low hanging fruit, the easy job to do, they will do that first.

They have so many troops mobilised now that they have more than ample deployed to walk (patrol) the schools. Roll out those Meerkats and other Reutech systems.

Everyones been in lockdown. The tit in the hat was crowing about crime being down .....

Go looking for a person with a school text book who is short of breath, has a fever cant spell mask, it will ether be Cyril or the vandal.
 
Hmph, just had a call on the neighborhood watch of torches at a local school. Of course the watch can't assist, so at least they've called in security partners and saps, how is nothing but doubt it ☹:mad:

It is down. The crime category/ies involving schools might be up, but murders and residential burglaries and robberies and theft from and of motor vehicles are way down, locally over 95% from what I gather. If you cannot understand that, you might as well be an ANC minister or voter too.

Come on, don't take it so hard, calling each other ANC voters is what we do here, it's all tongue in cheek.

Who knows - maybe just had a bad day?

I believe play the topic not the man, I dont know you folks, and you are quite entitled to your opinions on the topic at hand..... but that aside, its better to apologise and be a gentleman than to try to be a wiseguy.

Think about how bad it could have been if alcohol and tobacco had still been on sale.

Sure its the people's fault the police use multiple vehicles and a horde of police to chase a very dangerous 50+ woman and her dog.

They focus on speeding because its a revenue generator and easy work.

So basically what you're saying is it is the fault of the police for being lazy gits.

How must one see any "tongue in cheek" if you don't give any indication via font or emoji? The only thing that offends me is clearly stupid thought. Anyone else that have used "but they said crime is down" in the other posts about this same issue have raised my ire.

Well you do have to target the most dangerous criminals first. That old woman might have been a member of the Hell Grannies.

And they were just trying help those joggers. Doing a personal trainer kind of thing.
