Must be proud, congrats.
My niece is still waiting for 3rd Jan (public school), but she got her Admaths IEB results back and got a distinction for that, super chuffed.
She wants Chem Eng.
 
There appear to be lots of A's going around. To sound a bit like an old fogey, in my day to get 6 A's was an outstanding achievement now you read about every second man and his dog getting that many...

There are a lot more "soft" subjects now. I mean, maths literacy? Life orientation? Two easy As right there.

She's dead keen on UCT. Has been provisionally accepted based on her results to date.
No we just have to figure out how to pay for it all.

That's because the exam is easier. IEB and government both with government maybe slightly easier.

A couple of years ago I heard that every matriculant at Herschel Girls School in Cape Town got at least 3 A's. So, maybe even a bit more common than every man and his dog!
 
I don't see how IEB exams can be more difficult. Umalusi approves the exams midyear and then they moderate the results for both IEB and DBE, thereafter they issue the same qualification which means the standard is the same. And it also doesn't make sense to claim IEB to be more difficult and yet everybody passes, with many A's as pointed out.

+1 parents who believe that their kids who went to IEB has a superior education than those who went to good government schools are just suckers for punishment.

Totally agree, i went to a private school(100%) but we did the government papers etc.. What i did find is that when i arrived at varsity i was a lot more prepared in terms of work load than people who went to the normal gov school or even IEB school. So i believe that it has a lot to do with the school and how they mold you rather the actual work.

Most people in 1st year uni i knew where often complaining about work load, and time pressure and none of this was a problem for me. This is not to say the price of my education was worth the extra money but i think i was at an advantage!

Anyhow im done with varsity and my work ethic has slacked off now, write board 1 in 24 days... Still have got to much to learn!
