99c per minute

It is not in the incumbents interests to lower the Interconnect fee. They dont care about the consumer.

“If we can’t change the industry in two months, then from January 2009 we will revert to R1.45 per minute,” Boyd concluded.

That sounds like they have already given up even before they got started

What do they mean change the industry. If the promotion will only last two months, then it is not worth anyone's while to change providers since the gains will only be short-lived.

Sadly I must agree with PrivateInSa. I am a long time Virgin Mobile Supporter, but promotions like this are merely used to get people to join the network, after which they are taken away...

The other one they offer that annoys me is the Unlimited Free SMS. I am an existing Virgin Client. I am not entitled to that offer, only new clients. I have been with Virgin since Mobile Number Portability, but do I get rewarded?

They are no even a blip on the radar so short of offering calls for free they will never make any difference what so ever, to little to late

Actually, I rather like their R1,55 price... I was paying Vodacom nearly R3 per minute.. now I am spending a lot less on my phone... and I make a lot more calls...

Typical BS from Virgin. What! They cannot possibly blame other operators - Are they stupid? If they expire the 99c Virgin to Virgin calls special after 2 months it is not Vodacom or MTN's fault - Other operators have nothing to do with that. Besides, with number portability and the prevailing prepaid culture, if people wanted to make the switch to benefit from the low call costs, they could easily do so. Meaning that they would have enough Virgin to Virgin people anyway. This would hopefully stop them from moaning about other operators.

I was with Virgin, but since they started expiring prepaid airtime after every 30 days, I went over to Vodacom (and kept my number). How dare they tell me to finish my airtime within 30 days - What the hell are they smoking! Even contract customers have airtime rollover of up to six months.

I will advice anyone to steer clear of this crappy virtual network, unless you have absolutely no choice.

From a prepaid point of view this is what I have to say. I remember when Vodacom offered 99c (off-peak) for 4U users then they started bumping up prices so I left and came to Virgin and plus I save 75% less on data than on every other cell service provide offering R2 a MB compared to Virgin's 50c per MB even there 65c for MMS and 20c SMSs from Virgin to Virgin is the lowest on any service provider. I just feel sorry on why they had to use Cell C for there virtual network. @schurtek, why don't you just migrate, but I understand why you aren't getting it cos sorry but the customer care for Virgin is pathetic in every sense of the word plus their "VZone" is quite primitive for this day and age.

from Virgin Mobiles T&C

Code:
4 PREPAY ACCOUNTS
4.1 Keep talking. If you choose the prepay account option:
(c) you need to top-up at least once every 90 days to keep your balance,
and at least once every 120 days to keep your phone number and
access to services, or else your phone number will be given to another
account holder, any V charges or V rewards left on your SIM will be
lost, and the service will be disconnected.

but check this...

Code:
2.3 Phone number. We grant you the use of a phone number. If we sell you a
special phone number you have even more special rights of use, but in all
cases, if obliged by law, we may need to change, withdraw, suspend or reassign
your phone number.

The claim they OWN your number... so they can with out notice, take it away from you... sucks for me, who has used the same number for his business since long before they existed... wanna see them try implement it... I will have them in court so fast...

Love that- "we grant you the use of a phone number"

They don't even bother trying to say they have any "services" to offer. You are lucky to get a phone number, never mind one that works when you want it to.

having said that, I was keen on Virgin for a number of reasons, this is encouraging. MTN will not let me go from pre-paid to contract. Apparently, in a wildly selfless manner, they want me to make sure that the other service providers cannot match their k*kness. I have to port to another network for at least three months, after which I may port back to MTN (if I really, really want to).

Guess I will give the Virgin a try.

Just wish I knew at least ONE person I could call with that great rate...

Great I can now make calls for 99c! Oh, but wait, I haven't been able to make calls for more than two weeks...well I guess i'll just send some free sms's then...no wait, i haven't been able to send an sms for the last two weeks either...hmmm.

I love virgin's philosophy and the things they come up with, but as a basic service provider they are quite useless. Gotten to the point now where i'm actually starting to investigate how much it would cost me to go back to one of the others. Undoubtedly more, but two weeks without making a call or getting anywhere with the call centre is a bit extreme...

my number 0725666101 (Virgin)

look, over all, they are the better guys to go for, in my experience...

funny... i was up in 4 hours when i ported... and I was literaley th first to port to virgin... did it one the day the law was passed...

my number 0725666101 (Virgin)

Awesome! A number i can heavy-breathing call to at 3 in the morning...no wait i probably won't be able to:D

I've gotten acceptable service since i joined about 6 months ego (free sms's allows you to overlook a lot) but now that i've had problems on a personal level i'd have to say my faith is quickly evaporating. I sincerely hope they'll restore that faith soon though. Really don't want to have to go back to that f*cking meerkat!

hahaha... overall, I would say I am more than please with Virgin, though they can do a lot to improve service...
