Hi, I'm selling my car, and its been advertised for 2 weeks now in a certain publication, dude calls me up, calls himself Trevor, speaks Afrikaans but very badly, says he's from Windhoek. He's in SA for 2 days and works for De Beers, drives abnormal heavy load trucks for them...
He wants to buy my car, as in now! Ok, so you don't want to see the car in the flesh first? No...He says I must come up to Klerksdorp as that's where he'll be and he'l give me R600 when I get there...we then go to the bank, he puts down cash amount deposited into my account. Then we go to the police station and he keeps the papers, the bank slip and a copy of my i.d...but the best part is this...I'm not to go to Klerksdorp with my Alfa, because just now something happens on my way there or back and he'll have to fork out more money for the damages...so I must get to Klerksdorp, but not with the car...So he doesn't want to see the car!...
He will then go back to Windhoek with the work, then fly up to JHB again and come collect the car...the car is for his wife, she needs a small car because she keeps on driving his X5 on small errands!
I told him to hear from his boss if he cannot come to JHB on Sat and I'll meet him at my friends house...he said he'll call me back.
Is this a scam? My gut tells me, I want to sell the car but can't let that fact cloud my judgement...if he calls back I'll tell him to meet me at the police station and tell the cops upfront what's happening...then I'll ask him to make a cash deposit in my accoutn and wait till the money clears the bank...then we can go ahead with the deal...but I doubt it will go this far...
How does this sound to ya'll, or is this Windhoek guy just really an odd one?
