A 'forceful' ICASA needed

Can't help wondering if this is not just some more PR. The same thing seems to be said over and over, but no real action is taken and no benefits are being passed down to the consumer.

What I find somewhat worrying, is the reference to their mandate in terms of the current Telecomms Act. My understanding is that in due course, this will be superceded by the provisions of the Convergence Bill. Begs the question of the extent of their real and genuine independence (particularly of government and its agencies), and the authority to go with it. Bated breath and large pucker factor again...

breathe normally - as far as i can make out this is definitely a case of the more things change the more they stay the same

only real change will be to the name - ECASA (electronic communications authority of south africa)...cue expensive and time-consuming rebranding exercise to convince the public of new-found effectiveness of regulator as opposed to those ICASA losers

Just more talk, we need action, not 'planning to make plans'... seems like any good news is in the distance yet.
