honestly OP, you sound exactly like me, when I had my ECU problems,
stopped, think, and then act,

tow the car to Dekra, see exactly what needs fixing to make the car drivable, go to a scrapyard, and get the parts needed,
DONT pay something that exorbitant, as Honda see a scared little Kid, and think lets get our beer money for the month out of you.

you can fix it for a lot less than what honda quoted you, go to a good mechanic, see what needs fixing, and fix it to make it drivable,
I just think your going to dig yourself a deeper hole OP, like myself,

Kia quoted me for a New ECU 18K at the time, the ENTIRE engine cost 9,5K,
eventually caught the gautrain to PRY and got myself an ECU for 4,5K with fitting another 500, and I was up and driving.

learn from everybody here, dont make the same mistakes. dont go buying a new car for a fender bender,

I have known a few people who have ended up with problem cars and I have never heard of a good end to the "fix it up" strategy. Generally a lot of things go out of whack in a code 3 situation and getting that alignment back perfectly is almost impossible. From what I have seen the sooner you get rid of the car and start with a new decent one the sooner you will stop bleeding money. For the most part problem cars keep giving problems, at least in my experience.

yip, I fixed it by not making rash decisions to buy another car, and going to the most expensive place,
that will rip me a new hole to breathe out of, (kia Edenvale, head office)

think, consult and then act,
you could probably find those parts at any scrapyard,

When do people usually start taking matters in their own hands and start getting their hands dirty in an effort to learn more about cars? I did that very early after buying my first car knowing fully well that it's a jungle out there. With so much information available online surely there are steps you can take to ensure that at least you aren't taken for a ride?

I know some people are just not technically inclined but at least knowing what is wrong and what needs to be fixed is a good start even if you are not doing the fixing yourself?

Arg people are just annoyingly uninterested in anything that gets their sissy hands dirty. Especially men, if you feel you are too important to learn about cars and how they work, mechanics will just run over you with high repair charges.

I bought my car, and I started learning about the car. I do my own brake jobs, I have replaced control arms on my car, once scratched my bumper and I damn well removed the scratch at my place, this weekend I am installing new my engine mounts.

Thing is, you can't know everything about everything so you maybe focus on the stuff that interests you. IF you don't like cars and just simply see them as a mode of transport you won't spend much time trying to figure them out.
I might know how to fix a car but my pool starts losing water I'm just getting a guy to sort it out. OK I might have an idea of how much it should cost but I could still be easily be taken advantage of.

Ohk I called a tow truck to take the car to my cousin's place over the weekend, I will go there with my buddy he is not good but he know his way around cars.

I cancelled all the stuff insurance, service & warranty plan I had I will save some money there R2100. Tracker need R1200 to cancel the contract I will sort them out month end.

Hey this isn't always the case.

I am very comfortable working on both my car and my motorcycle but my hourly rate is twice that of my mechanics so I take my vehicles to them instead of losing a month of Saturdays playing mechanic. Upgrades an fun mods I do myself because I want to not because I need to get to work.

Sure I understand, i do understand we'll be taken advantage of at times, it's the cluelessness that baffles me, we might not know everything about everything but the stuff I encounter at times leaves me staggered.

If a mechanic tells you "Sir the cross member on your car is damaged beyond repair and will cost R30k to fix" surely you would be interested in knowing which part is a cross member on a car? Similarly with a leaking pool or a faulty circuit breaker that made you spend a weekend in darkness? Unless you have loads of money to throw at any problem that comes your way I don't know how far ignorance is goingbto take you in this day and age.

Look I don't think you need to know about cross members and all that but I do think you could at the very least get a second opinion/ quote on things.
Like the pool leak - I mentioned it cos it recently happened to us - I got someone out, they said what they think the issue is, gave a quote fix. I had no idea if he was being honest and if the cost was fair. None. So I got someone else to have a look, they came back with the same issue but a slightly higher cost. Now, they might both be lying about the issue but it did put me a bit more at ease.

You're right though - basically it's about what it's worth to you and how much are you prepared to spend for convenience

These guys are f.king you without condoms. You don't really need to do the body work, do the mechanical stuff that is needed and do the rest over time. Eventually you can sell the car for market value and start over. This guys on the forum actually gave you some good advice, don't look back in two years and regret not listening.

did you see what I posted to you earlier OP, plenty of places where you can pick up the replacement parts for a Honda Brio,
and you doing well trying to fix the car, rather than going and buying another and throwing money away.

believe me, it will cost much less to fix, than to throw it away and buy another car.

Quick question, what will you do if just you cancelled the insurance, something happens to the car? Say the car fixing it has a fire in his workshop and the car burns to ashes, what position will you be in then?
