R13000..I don't think so.

Edit: Sorry this price is for the Pre mentioned PC not the one for R12993

Well I did a price hunt, 8793. 00 incl was what I came up with.

remember a pc that is more than 4 months old is worth around half what u paid for i would say

so if you gonna buy buy for the long run

Depreciation on PCs is roughly 1% per week, so maybe after 6 months it would have halved in value, although selling price would be a whole different ballgame, depending on market conditions etc.

Some things like graphics cards, I do not think there is any point in buying for the long run. They simply loose value too fast and new stuff is introduced all the time. I therefore believe in rather buying the "right" card for current games and upgrading as needed.

Buying the "right" card is a bit vague... how would you difine that?
(seeing as most games today run either OpenGL or Direct3D, and performance therefore increases by the same increment for most games)

The best approach would be to buy as fast (image quality asside) as your budget allows.

I would agree that the 6600GT is the best value for money atm, so buying that would be the best option, if you can afford it, as it'll be good enough for at least the next 2 years.

Point being, don't buy a R9250 just because it can run Sims 2 (barely), if you can afford something better which will run some of the newer games as well, because you're just gonna have to fork out more cash later anyways.

I.E. "Upgrading as needed" is gonna end up costing you a fortune.

well ive got a 6800le and happy with it runs bf 2 like a dream

now if i didnt have a g/.f i might invest 4k in a vga card

What I am saying is I could buy a twin 7800GTX for for about R11,000 today or a 6600 GT for about R1700. According to this page:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga_charts_viii/page11.html (wish they has a score for BF2)
the first option would give me about double the frames per second of the second option. The second option still gives an acceptable 60fps for Quake 4. And probably no nead to play in Ultra Quality in any case.

The first option might stay nice for three years or so, but for the second option I can buy a new card every year for four years and still have at least R3000 left in the bank. And at the end of the four years, the card will be able to play current games for that time using up to date pixel shaders etc.

Also, knowing myself, I will buy another PC before the four years is over and the bus spec may have changed by then, meaning I have to chuck the dual cards in any case.

I have only prices for about 3.5 years ago, but at that point a GeForce Ti4600 was about R7000, where today it would be considered a joke. So if the same holds true, the dual cards above will probably be a joke in four years time.

So, at the end of the four years I shall then have a much faster card and some money left over. The only sad part is that I shall not be able to brag about my PC in the mean time.
