That's fine, it at least reduces the coal needed during the day which can instead be used at night which in turn reduces or eliminates the need for diesel turbines...

You're assuming only solar or only wind, I never said that. There are multiple solar techs, including csp, there are also other ways to store power for later. Things like the Ford F150's design whereby power can be fed back into the house will probably become the norm.
