Would have gone for a night out at The Ranch in Cape Town, but alas, they no longer exist![]()
So it's rolling around to that time of the year where for a lot of us, we have to start thinking about breaking the bank buying presents for all and sundry. I say we, but I don't fall into this category. However, for one or many reasons, I've never spoilt myself. So I decided that this year would be different. As an avid long distance runner, I've never had a decent watch so I decided that with a busy calendar of races next year, I thought I'd remedy the situation.
My present: A Garmin Forerunner 235

So are any of you going to spoil yourselves this year for a change? What's on your horizon?
Awesome choice, got my Forerunner 235 about 3 months back after ditching fitbit -very happy with it.
Sorry guys. Not trying to derail... Why did you decide to ditch Fitbit?
I'm the same boat. Charge 2 owner but the lack of waterproofing and dodgy build quality made me start looking elsewhere. I don't care about challenges and community crap. The sleep tracking is also horrible on my Fitbit.
Good(ish) HR monitoring, good battery life and solid build quality is all I'm after.
Do it!
When it was working I was pleased with it, I had the Charge HR (version 1). Had it for 18 months and ended up getting it replaced twice after it bricked on an update. They replaced my second one out of warranty so kudos to them for that but after being without a tracker for two weeks I had my heart set on the Garmin. Of the three other people I know who had that Fitbit, 2 had to have units replaced and the 3rd had a band the bubbles and perished -so yeah, build quality and reliability was the big kicker for me.
I do miss the team challenge events on Fitbit and the social aspect of that is a bit slicker but I like that the Garmin has a built in GPS, that you can pause workouts and that you can display your average heart rate (all good for getting Vitality points so maybe not relevant to you). Also like that it's waterproof.
I did it!
Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and got the Vivoactive HR now.
I am on my 4th Fitbit. First Charge 1 just died completely and I received a full refund from Makro. Then decided to upgrade to the Charge 2. Strap had the exact bubbling problem you mention and it was replaced with a new one. On that one the HR Pulsing light just died after a month and no amount of resets could get it working again. Replaced again. Latest one hasn't had any issues as of yet but at this stage I am pretty much just waiting for something to give.
