Congrats Waynegohl and MickeyD. My son also passed matric and has been accepted at medical school, I dropped him at the airport yesterday, he is on his way to the UK to visit his dad and go on ski vacation in Italy, his buddy was also invited, so I guess they're going to have the time of their lives.
A bit more about how I raised my son:
Decorated his cot with all manner of interesting objects from ramchips to rubber dinosaurs which he could chew on when teething.
Sang to him every night.

- As ek moeg word vir die lewe in die stad
- Bobbejaan klim die berg.. and so on
Walked with him on my hip, teaching him the names of all the objects in our environment.
Read to him every night before bed, until around Grade 4, then he read on his own.
Played lego and lego technics and lego adv with him.
Later we pc gamed together - Quake was our first game - he was 4 years old.
He never did school work in the afternoon, from Grade 1 he did his homework in the morning,
right through to matric.
I allowed him to game through the night, throughout high school, my rule was simple:
Keep your school marks up and you earn the freedom to do with your time as you please.
Pc upgrades, broadband and games were conditional to him developing pc skills, which he did,
he can program, fix his own hardware and do advanced photoshop.
He also has a vibrant online culture, forums and steam, and many online buddies he games with,
most of whom I've met when dropping him off for gaming lans.
In all our years together online, sometimes within the same cyber communities, we gave each
other privacy and will never reveal our connection.
We have gamed many many many hours together, we have watched lots of series together, eg Star Trek, Stargate, House..
He grew up in a home without television or religion, but with the internet and lots of books and a fulltime parent - me.
It has been an incredible journey so far
