Does IE8 overwrite older versions of IE?

I'd like to have a look at IE8, but I can't afford to be without my IE6. :D (I've kept IE6 on this computer - I just use it for testing and the intranet)

I had some issues with beta version on Vista, particularly with VMware server.

So far the full version is working for me. Subjectively seems faster, but that means very little as it may be due to many things unrelated to ie.

Using IE8 for an hour now. Not too impressed with the interface (that damned bar at the top is wasting valuable screen space!) and right-clicking to open a link in a new tab takes 2-3 seconds. FF is faster.

YOu can customise IE8 to virtually anything you want. Bars can go, etc. See Paul Thurrott's supersite for more details. IE8 is a substantial improvement on IE7, and Paul explains why.

It feels fast to me for some reason. Will have to use it for a while before I can make a call difinitively.

I can't really say, my internet has been up to pot the last week or so, ever since the axxess debacle. If I take any myBB article for instance, the page is very sluggish scrolling up and down. A lot of other sites takes for ever to load, but I'm not sure if it is thanks ty internet, or IE8.

BTW, IE8 actually has two rendering engines -- the new default one which is much more standards compliant (and which therefore runs into some issues with certain pages), and a legacy renderer for comptibility. The system transparently switches between the two; MS also maintains a list of sites/pages with known issues and IE8 can query that list and use the appropriate engine as needed.

Installed it @ 9 this morning, used it for 10 minutes and crash. Crash was an incompatibility with flashplayer.

Been using FF3 only, since.
