It is a scam and Standard Bank are aware of it.

Here is the officail response from Standard Bank:

Phishing

Standard Bank customers are advised not to respond to any unsolicited email. Standard Bank's IT Security have been made aware of a new phishing scam launched against its customers. The email that is currently being sent to customers "appears" to originate from Standard Bank and requests customers to confirm their personal details.

"Customers should not respond, and should ignore and delete any unsolicited mail. Standard Bank will never ask its customers for their banking credentials, like PINs and other personal banking credentials. Should you have divulged any personal information in this manner, please contact our call centre on 0860 123 000," says Herman Singh, Director: Technology Engineering at Standard Bank.

Phishing is a global problem. Syndicates use unsolicited mail to obtain personal details from unsuspecting customers which is commonly known as identity theft.

"Standard Bank would like to assure all its customers that the phishing incident is being dealt with as a matter of urgency. I would like to urge all our customers to adopt a One-time Password as an extra security measure," says Singh.

One-time password: This requires a customer doing a transaction over the internet to have a second password to complete a transaction. Visit www.standardbank.co.za for more detail.
My Notification: This is a notification service that informs customers of transactions that are been carried out on the Internet banking platform. The delivery mechanisms supported are email and SMS, while the support notifications are restricted to logons, profile amendments, new beneficiary adds, amendments to existing beneficiaries and once-off payments notification
Payment confirmation: The payment confirmation facility is a notification process that informs both the payer and payee that a transfer transaction has been successfully completed.

Yup, definately spam, got the same email :/
This definately NOT spam, as spam is defined as unsollicited advertising, and is not considered criminal in most countries unless they refrain from spamming you upon your request.

This is outright fraud and attempted theft which is very much a criminal act and much more serious than spam.

Just FYI ;)
