I'm trying to help a relative find a small phone that is a) cheap and b) decent and c) locally available.

Basically, I'd love the specs of like a Xiaomi Note 10 Pro but just in a smaller body. Obviously the specs might need to be compromised somewhere, like a smaller battery to cut down on size and weight.

Google suggests that smaller decent phones these days are either expensive and/or Apple.

Any Android options out there at all?

Everything I can find seems to be 10k plus which is mad...

You sitting with one of them lovely triangles, small cheap and decent, you can only pick 2.

If it’s small and cheap, it ain’t decent.
If it’s decent and cheap it ain’t small.

Also cheap is kinda relative to be honest, compared to a Galaxy Fold 10k+ is cheap. Lol

That's what my Googling seems to suggest!

It's mad really. I'm happy to accept less phone but I don't want to pay more money for it...

Everything these days is basically the same size and varying degrees of hefty. All heading towards the 200g mark.

Towards, they’ve past that, the iPhone 13 pro is at 206/9 and the max is 236.

Next round of Galaxy’s will probably be in that region too.

Although 200g ain’t in any way heavy. Not really sure why people make such a big fuss about it.

It's not light either...

I was doing a clear-out the other day and stumbled upon my most favourite phone ever, the Ericsson K850i - the thing was so tiny it seemed too small even for a child. Amazing that it was once the pinnacle of mobile phoning. Sony_Ericsson_K850_(Luminous_Green),_front_and_back.jpg

Edit: my apologies, it was in fact the humble K750i that I meant: https://www.engadget.com/sony-ericsson-k750i-love-letter-retrospective-141532171.html

1699 at Takealot. 2gb ram 32 gb storage 5000 mAh battery. Remdi 9

That looks like the opposite of what I'm after. Is that the fattest phone currently on the market?
Budget..? What is your budget..? If it's 2k or less, the redmi 9a is pretty much best for your money..

Anything less than 5k would be good.

I saw the 9A. Pity about the 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM. I had a Xiaomi like that before and found it quite limiting.

Strange that they don't make the normal flagship and midrange devices but just a bit smaller. Not everyone is looking for a massive lump of a phone. Sigh.

Then just look at a Samsung A32 or a Vivo Y21s

Redmi note 10s is then what I would recommend.. if you stretch the budget by 200bucks or try find the 64gb version, which might drop below the 5k mark..

Now you made me miss my W850I, a slider, but a nice slider. Used to be big on listening to music on the move, the W850I was basically my Sony Walkman. The phone which I loved the most was my Nokia 6220 Classic, then came the smartphone era... went back to Sony Ericsson with their X10 /cough it was a schit phone, badly wanted my W850I back.

Why smaller body? The standard is now 6 inch screens and it's manageable by most.

You best bet is Redmi 9A, 9C, 9T.

Pity the MI9 SE is no longer available. I'm still using mine. It's compact and only weigh in at 155g.
It has all the bells and whistles.

9C user here for more than a year. Love this phone .
