This is only a thing in socialist cities such as CT and JHB. The rest of the country hasn't bowed to the ideology yet.
 
I’ll have to speak to my neighbour, offer to prune some shrubbery. These should come down irrespective, as it is busy cracking the boundary walls in that corner.

Looking good so far,

Sadly this morning , around 5:30 it switched to grid to start charging batteries, but my daughter decided to bake last night around 7:30, if it wasnt for that, the batteries would have lasted until sunrise this morning

Inverter and batteries will share space with computer servers (trying to limit them to 2… although they behave like rabbits) in the old wash/laundry/utility room. Linen closet stays untouched. House DB behind the closet in the passage

Enough space next to the inverter to fit a second 5kw if needed, and the wall to the right of this have enough space for an additional battery (next to the outside door)

I’ve dewatered the room a year ago, so today was the culmination of a l-o-n-g plan.

We’ve added a 220v fan below the inverter to assist in airflow. I’ve also bought a 120mm bathroom extraction fan which will replace the old air brick above the outside door.


The inverter is somewhat noisier than expected, although replacing the interior door to the passage with a solid exterior door should help a lot.

Bonus(?): suppliers did not have 545W panels, so 12x555 were installed.l
 
Seeing the Nanoview showing 0 draw from the grid is quite satisfying.

I might have to build a card / view for HomeAssistant showing datapoints and flows across all circuits, from PV / Grid / batteries down to each circuit in the DB.

I’m already pushing the Nanoview data to EmonCMS, which is Integrated into HA. I rhink there are about 12 or 14 CT clamps in the DB


Now to get lxp-bridge up and running, and then to expose all the detail.

Not yet they don't. But just like prepaid cellphone data that expires each month, you have now given ESKOM a new idea. Thank you, Mr Jacob, thank you very much. Now we are all going to have our prepaid units expire on the last day of the month :confused:

If the room doesn't get too hot you can de-rate it in the settings on the inverter itself
 
+1 This is why I vote ANC.
Jirre, I pay that network fee with a smile if the alternative is having another incompotent ANC run administration with a useless mayor like the last one they had here in CPT. Things work down here and I'm ok to pay for that.

The room also hosts a DL380 blade server server acting as an application host and a HP Microserver acting as a file server.

Before the inverter installation the room was very hot running an additional two computers, and most of them at close to 100% CPU trying to close the gap to @Rouxenator on BOINC.
When the electrician walked into the room before the installation he just said it is too hot. The "outside" door does not quite lead outside at the moment, so it stays open to dissipate heat.

I'll add the extractor fan this weekend, and add a temp sensor to the Raspberry Pi Zero acting as the Nanoview interface. The idea is to keep all the doors closed, and all the equipment comfortable.

My inverter also runs in the same room as my tumble dryer and computers - but it's not hot in here. Actually, planning on changing the door leading outside into a window.

Only the Ryzen and C2D have fans and they run pretty cool. The embedded SoCs that are passively cooled. 0 or 1 hosts are sold.

End of day state of charge was set at 50%, so last night the inverter started consuming from the grid. Changed that setting to 30%.

Eskom consumption was a fraction of what it was previously, and I'm hoping to slash it some more.

Around the 18th the geyser element was changed to a 2kw, and the temperature was brought down from in the 60s to 50.

Here is my daily Eskom usage for the past month

The happenings today:
00:30 EOD SOC limit must have been reached, started consuming from grid
06:20 Changed EOD SOC to 30%, also changed settings to Solar and Grid take load together
09:50 Batteries fully charged
7:30 - 12:00 Iron / Washing, etc happened

Borehole pump was on during its customary slot from 7:35 to 7:45 and then also from 13:30 to 16:00 for irrigation and filling the tank to the brim

All of that for 4.8 units of Eskom :D
