A week with Apple ...

Anything can do basic notifications and it does do that.

But actionable notifications (replying to messages) and stuff like calls etc require a native app.
Ok cool - that's alright.

Ok - thanks for the tip. I always do it - but not really to speed things up, but to force it closed.

FNB remains with my details on screen if I just leave it. And then the app has logged me out in the background - so clicking on anything results in a dimmed screen with spinning wheel

I suspected as much as all your complaints seem related to first time startups.

No need to close anything for any reason other than it maybe needing a forced crash.

FNB should “camouflage” the moment you flip away. But why is this even a problem? You phone is FaceID protected.

And if you have 22Seven, this is the issue I've been trying to describe

That bar graph at the top is clickable on the Android. If I want to see a list of May transactions that make up the R500.00, it's a click away (a click away, a click away) . On iOS it's a static image .

So here's a question developers :

Is iOS not more difficult to write apps for because of the closed nature ?
Are there things that a developer could want - that are just not possible in iOS?

Like I said earlier MyBroadband / Shelly / 22Seven / Snapseed all offer extra features on Android - but is it because the developer is limited on what he can do ?

No it’s far easier to develop for iOS BECAUSE of the closed nature.

Likely the fault here is having different teams working on the apps with different feature priorities.

Often you’ll be amazed to find they don’t even talk to each other and only talk to UX to make it look the same, not necessarily function the same.

Yeah if in-app, Developer most likely doing it that way.

Edit : Nope. Gmail still opens on my side
So what am I doing wrong?
Maybe restart or factory reset?

Did a quick test (default email is Outlook and I am on iOS 15.5.

If go to a website in Safari and open a ‘contact us’ it asks to restore Mail.
If I do the same in Chrome it asks if I want to use the default mail app or if I want to choose another.

Wonder if works better in iOS 16. Maybe Tsepz_GP can see if he gets the same behavior on iOS 16 or if I have a super phone :p

Fine on Safari for me - iOS 15.6

@Dolby, maybe try these instructions

Went back, changed the default mail to Gmail and tested and it worked fine in Safari and Chrome.
Then changed default email back to Outlook and now it also works fine in Safari and Chrome, if I open 'Contact Us' on any website it asks if I want to open Outlook.

Did not test in any apps, only in browsers.

Still on 15.5.

Was about to make this exact point.

@Dolby don’t be tempted to “multitask swipe” and force close apps.

There is no need for it, leave them all open permanently and let the OS manage it.

There is no task manager behaviour required from the use for iOS.

I have 108 apps open right now.
True...in Safari alone I have at any given time around 250-300 tabs "open"...phone is still as fast as ever

Speaking of which if you didn’t know you hold the Two squares bottom right and you can close them all one shot.

Thanks…checked it out but doesn’t seem to support call notifications
This is a problem with Samsung as well. I never received call notifications on my watch, only the missed call notification. (Not sure if it has been fixed with the Watch4. This applied to Gear S2, Watch and Watch3 that I had)

Took me a while to get used to this. Now everything is open all the time.

On another topic, do you all use Tapatalk? Anyone use the MyBroadband app?

The iOS version shows a post was liked, but you can't see who.
I used to use Tapatalk but it got worse and worse with some forum’s losing support or simply not playing nice with it, ended up killing the subscription and deleted it.

I just use Safari now to browse all forums.

Yeah I can confirm on iOS 16 Beta that it opens GMail straightaway.

@Dolby in the Mail app settings, you also need to set GMail as default there, that’s how I sorted it out, so after setting GMail as default in settings go to Mail app settings and set GMail as default there to…
