Just a question guys, being a lady and not knowing much with the cars, I'm starting to have problems with my A4 2.0TDI clutch. There was a smoke coming form the bonnet. But to my suprise that cannot be covered in maintenance plan. Anyone who can share their experince on the topic. a bit stressed at the moment.

Best bet is to take it to a mechanic that your friends/yourself trust and get an opinion.

Do you "ride" the clutch often?

I think so, as i am driving short distances with lot speed humps.

Then you are up the creeck without a paddle. They will call it driver abuse so maintenance plan wont cover it.

Will be costly. Ford charged me about R11k for a new clutch+labour, but I managed to buy one for R2.5k and got a good friend to fit it for R500 about 2 years ago.

If there was literally visible smoke then you literally burnt the clutch out. A bit different to long term wear, and not covered under warranty. You should have gone with an auto if you ride the clutch.
What's your mileage?

Sorry for the OP its clear he/she can't drive, like so many I encounter on the roads.
School Fees!

That's about right for a clutch from the dealers. If the flywheel is damaged she is looking at R23,000+ for everything. Fscking dual-mass flywheels..

I've never had clutch troubles of any sort - and I've been driving for about 8 years. Could someone explain to me what you'd have to do accomplish something like what OP did?

Its called "riding the clutch" see it often
They slip the clutch to hold the car at the stop street, on an incline, because they cannot for some reason use the handbrake, and cannot master the brake pedal either.
They also slip the clutch to control the car speed while driving, and while pulling off, they rev the crap out of the engine but the car barely pulls away.

Been driving for 15 years, never ever ruined a car's clutch

if you got motorplan, even with abuse; I would escalate and be hard with them in not covering atleast part of it.
push to the max, an dif you dont come right, then try anotehr dealer or go further up to head office!
just saying...

If it's obvious abuse then they won't budge, I guarantee it.
A smoked clutch will show definite scorch marks.

Nevertheless. .... I'll still push. There is more than driver abuse only that shows scorching yessir!

Then my recommendation is try drive it a bit before taking it in, just to try level the clutch plate so it looks more like normal wear.
But I still don't see them replacing it.

i have , once, but the gearbox failed, and only had 5th gear

They told me they won't replace it, they test driver it and they said is not it is still fine. Just don't know how far can I push it. I'm only 40 000 km.

I'd suggest you replace it ASAP. You could get stuck in an awkward or dangerous situation.

Then STOP riding the clutch. When you changed gears, remove your foot OFF the clutch pedal completely.

I hear high heels is the reason most women ride ...
