A4 Burned clutch

Its called "riding the clutch" see it often
They slip the clutch to hold the car at the stop street, on an incline, because they cannot for some reason use the handbrake, and cannot master the brake pedal either.
They also slip the clutch to control the car speed while driving, and while pulling off, they rev the crap out of the engine but the car barely pulls away.

Using it at minor inclines really shouldn't be a problem if done correctly.

If you smell it then your are doing it wrong.

Keeping your foot even slightly on the clutch after changing gears or adjusting your speed with it is a big no no though.

I call bullcrud on the OP. From what I heard VAG products are unbreakable. The smoke is most likely just an awesome undocumented feature.

After my issue and revisiting the thread, there's your there.

I believe the A4/S4 has issues with clutches - even worse on the S4 - from the factory. So it may not necessarily be her fault or driving style, but rather a week clutch fitted to that specific vehicle?

I haven't heard of as many issues from other stables as Audis, but that said, I haven't gone out my way check. Oh - and be prepared for fights to get them to even consider anything other than driver abuse. They won't even look my car to determine was it is

Why not just put the car into neutral instead of holding the clutch in?

I do this all the time in my manual car when approaching stop streets and red traffic lights. If my memory serves me correctly, when doing K53, you would get deducted points for doing this, maybe even a failed test for changing into neutral when the vehicle isn't at a complete stop.

But lets be honest here, K53 is biggest load of k@K ever. During my test I spent more time looking around and observing, and checking mirrors than on the road in front of me. My suggestion is that all learners going for their license should go on mandatory lessons which include normal practice grounds, road and highway lessons, and then a defensive driving lesson (where you can learn to dodge taxi's )
